Kerang Golf Bowls

THE Thursday social bowls was attended by 12 members, with the semi-finals of the Men’s 100 Up being played as well. Three bowl triples was played, with the only two game winner being Noel Robertson, Doug Hawke and Som Pascoe.

Runners-up were Lorraine Ritchie, Laurie Gray and Bryce McLeish. The encouragement chocolates were accepted by Rob Fisher, Dale Spinks and Jim Richards. It was good to see Jim playing, but it was great to see him enjoying his chocolate, washed down with his Great Northern.

The 100 Up winners were Jim McLeish and Howard McClelland, who defeated Frank Ritchie and Ronnie McKerrow, respectively, to advance to the final. The final of the Fours is scheduled for this Friday, between Ronnie McKerrow’s rink and Rob Fisher’s.

On Saturday, the popular 2-4-2 Pairs game was played over two games of eight ends. Some very close games and some excellent bowling was witnessed. A few planes flying overhead from the displays at the aerodrome didn’t seem to disrupt proceedings, until the Tiger Moths took to the skies.

There were two combinations who won both games, with Sonia McLeish and Howard McClelland winning with their 12 shot winning score, against Laurie Gray and Frank Ritchie who finished seven shots up. Encouragement award to Doug Hawke and Dale Spinks.

Social bowls continues on Thursdays and Saturdays, with a 12.45pm assembly, with bowls starting at 1pm. A draw is done each session, so there is no need to organise teams, just turn up and an enjoyable afternoon is assured. Visitors and non-members are welcome.

The annual Anzac Day Triples is fast approaching, so get your team organised for this popular charity event. Entries to Frank Ritchie or Aldo, or on the sheet on the noticeboard.

Kerang have their Annual Easter Tournament coming up and welcome teams or single entries for any of their days over this holiday period.

Cohuna Golf Bowls

After an action-packed day at the beautiful Euston Bowls complex, Cohuna Golf were crowned regional pennant champions. They defeated all three of the other division winners, with individual skipper tallies being Harrison Keely, three wins + 37, Jarred Hammond two wins +12, Bluey Fletcher one win -19.

The victory qualifies the club for the state pennant finals to be held at Moama from May 22, our third participation at this level. Players and supporters should be congratulated for making the long haul north, the reward was most fitting.

Back on home soil, the Tuesday ladies played fours, with winners being Irene, Mary, Barb and Lucy who is handling her new bowling arm really well. It was Helen Hall who triumphed in the final of the 100 up competition, defeating last year’s champ in Mary Rodwell.

Thursday pairs was held on a lightning fast green, resulting in a few blowout games as players came to grips with the speed. Winners were Bluey Fletcher and Gwen Campbell from Pat Quinn and John Pearson, while the repecharge poultry went the way of John Brown and Rhonda Bibby. No claimant for the jackpot, $40 this week.

At Bendigo Country Week, Colin and Spike nearly replicated last year’s win, reaching the last eight, while the Bibby rink won their section, but bowed out early in the finals.

This week sees members supporting tournaments at Racecourse and locally at Cohuna, while a rink is involved in the Waverly Shield on Sunday, this year hosted by Kerang Golf.

Quambatook

THE club hosted the Beyond The Battle fundraising crew on Friday night for a social bowls night.

The group have travelled around western Victoria in a collection of old cars raising funds and promoting awareness of bowel cancer. There were plenty of laughs on the green as most of them had never played bowls before, but it was all in fun and a good amount of money was raised.

The club 100 up singles was played on Saturday.

In the semi-finals, Dale Williams defeated Wayne Cook and Mick Coleman defeated Russell Waldron. In the final between Mick and Dale, both players were in good form and a close game was played, with Mick eventually drawing away to win 101/74 .

The last club event, the Club Pairs, will be held on Sunday, April 10.
