Full house for Cohuna tournament

COHUNA Bowls Club was at full capacity over the weekend as 24 teams contested the Northern Victorian Classic Fours Tournament.

The annual tournament drew to Cohuna 96 players from places such as Horsham, Castlemaine, Ballarat, Midlands, Essendon and Moonee Ponds.

Graham Wilson, Ken Dehne, Trevor Hore and Jon Henty took out the competition after they defeated the team of Nick Jarman, Jeff Reade, Greg Beck and Bob Maud in the final.

Cohuna Bowls Club president Bryan Main was pleased with the weekend.

“It went very well,” he said.

“We also had a lead-up event on Friday that was a pairs competition.

“There are always a few players who travel up here so it is good to get outside interest.”

Among strong local performances, Leitchville player Dehne was part of the winning team that took home the $1600 first prize.

Cohuna pair Reade and Beck also performed well in the tournament, combining with Barham pair Jarman and Maud to finish runners-up.

“We filled up both our greens,” Main said.

“We couldn’t take anymore entries.”

In the pairs warm-up competition on Friday, 36 teams took part. The team of P. Bibby and P. McMannus defeated L. Bastin and S. McCoombe in the final.
