KERANG Bowling Club Easter Tournament Organiser Alyne Fagg has labelled the event a success despite losing a day and half of competition due to rain last week.
Starting on Good Friday with their A/C 3 Bowls Pairs event consisting of three games of 12 ends the event was supposed to run every day through to Wednesday however rain on Monday and Tuesday halted play on both days.
“We played one event on Monday,” Fagg said.
“It was one game of 10 ends but it was in the rain.
“We battled on and I asked a number of our competitors to advise me when they thought it was too wet to go go on.
“It was decided we would finish one game and then we had afternoon tea and called it a day.”
Continued rainfall on Monday and into Tuesday meant that the tournament’s Tuesday event didn’t even see the players walk onto the green as it was far too wet to commence competition.
However, the A/C Medley Pairs event on Wednesday meant that the carnival could be wrapped up on a positive note.
“We went back in on Wednesday,” Fagg said.
“Some of the people who would have stayed left on Tuesday because of the rain so our numbers were down a little bit.
“But that is just par of the course.”
Despite losing effectively two tournament days including the marquee Monday event which was supposed to be Greenwood A/C Championship Fours with teams competing for the G.S “Sid” Greenwood Perpetual Trophy and $600 prize money Fagg was still happy how the event went.
“Apart from the rain on Monday and Tuesday it was a reasonably good weekend,” he said.
“Our numbers were probably down on other years there is no doubt about that.
“But that is probably a sign of the times, as other clubs are also having trouble getting tournaments full.
“We still had a reasonable crowd and everyone has enjoyed the event.”
