Across the greens

Cohuna

Unfortunately all pennant has been cancelled for the next two weeks.

The NDPA match committee had no choice but to make this call as many people were working so hard to try and stem the floodwaters.

Our Tuesday Social Bowls had 30 players. Winners on the day were Rhonda, Marg M, Trevor A and Gaye. Well done team.

Wednesday we had a bit of pennant practice with those able to come. Winners were Rick, Judy and Gaye.

On a very sad note the club sends Rhonda, Kellie, Brooke and their families our heartfelt sympathy on the sudden passing of Kerry.

A popular and respected member of our club he will be sadly missed.

Vale Kerry.

Cohuna Golf

Our week began with the ladies combining championship games with a fours competition. Winners on the day were Yvonne, Mary, Kath and Deanne, while the four singles winners progressed to the round of eight.

For the first time for ages our Thursday pairs fired up, with all players enjoying a lightning fast green.

Major winners on the day were the pairing of Peter Coates and Brian McLoughlan with a huge plus 25 score-line, just ahead of the unlucky Sutherland-Waters combination with plus 17. The repechage poultry went the way of Alan Holmes and Laurie Forde.

Members were saddened to hear of the passing of Kerry Ballard, a regular at our pairs and a supporter of all events although of late a member at Cohuna.

Condolences from all at the Golf to his family, he’ll be sadly missed.

The huge rains have created havoc around the environs of the golf course and our best wishes go to those residents (many of whom are members) who face an uncertain future with rising water levels.

Lots of community assistance has hopefully forestalled any major issues.

No pennant of course for another week, but other activities have continued where able, the first of which is our Wednesday night competition which began in fine style last week, with pickup winners being Max Simmonds, Lee Sutherland and Kirsty Cramer. Teams follow these notes.

The social club is running a casserole two course dinner on Friday, November 4. Names to Cheryle, Yvonne of Mick promptly as places are limited.

Kerang Golf

Even though the water is still threatening and the rain is forecast to fall again, members have enjoyed a break from the constant surveillance of the local rivers and creeks, with a game of bowls.

Gratitude is extended to all the emergency services personnel and community volunteers for their untiring efforts to keep the town safe and doing all in their power to assist our rural neighbours and towns in these trying times.

With the cancellation of pennant, both midweek and Saturday, for two weeks, social bowls has filled the gap for the die-hard bowling fraternity.

Last Thursday, there were 27 players who had an enjoyable afternoon, with a mixture of triples and fours.

At the completion of the regulatory two games, there remained only one undefeated combination, that being Lorraine Ritchie, Mick Pors, Benny De Masson and Noel Congram. It was great to see Benny and Noel back on the greens.

We also welcomed new member, Steve Phillips for his first game of social bowls with us, since moving to town from Adelaide.

The runners-up in the bowls was the trio of Laurie Gray, Rob Fisher and Allison Medson. The chocolates to Marlene Orr, Dale Spinks and Ken Pay.

On Saturday, 32 bowlers turned out for a social game, in the sunshine. The greens had been prepared as usual and at the completion of two games of 10 ends, there were multiple undefeated teams.

With 12 shots up, Judy McKerrow, Rob Fisher, John Duckworth and jean Duckworth took out the major prize, just in front of Frank Ritchie, “Fonzy” Taylor, Stuart “in form” Robinson and Andrew Charles, who finished on 10 shots up.

Third place to Rob Malseed, Lloyd Murray, Ken Pay and Greg Tate. The chocolates to Peter Niall, Marlene Orr, Trevor Burmeister and Jeff Anderson.

The Royal Hotel night on Saturday, November 5 is still seeking expressions of interest, so please put your names on the sheet on the noticeboard. Come along and support our sponsor – there will be some surprises on the night as well.

Unfortunately, the Peg Coad Day has been postponed and will be held at a later date, and our Wednesday evening twilight triples has been put on hold for the time being.

Men’s club championship entries have now closed. The draw will be on the noticeboard, with “play by” dates attached. Please arrange games prior to these dates, so the match committee doesn’t have to remind you. There will be no exceptions for games not played. Other event entry sheets are on the board as well. If you wish to play in these events, please enter your names.

Leitchville

Due to the floods around the district midweek and Saturday pennant has been abandoned for two weeks and we hope those that are in the flood affected areas are safe and we are thinking of you all.

This coming Saturday, October 29 at 1pm the club is having pennant practice with teams selected on the day and with the possibility of Pyramid Hill Bowls Club joining us. Afterwards there will be a sausage sizzle.

Subs are now due and can be paid to John Walters or Heather Crichton.
