Cohuna
It has been very busy around the club since our last pennant game in December.
Our Christmas breakup on December 16 was a great night of good food and conversation. Many thanks to the ladies in the kitchen and the men who cooked the chicken steaks.
There was a special presentation made on the night to a very surprised and emotional Rob Wilson.
Rob is now a life member of the Cohuna Bowls Club. Congratulations and well done, Rob.
During the break, barefoot bowls, lots of catering and club matches have been progressing. A huge thank you to Noddy and his helpers for opening the bar each afternoon and also to anyone who has helped keep things going over this period. Thank you all – a job well done.
Friday nights have not missed a beat either. Once again, none of this would happen if not for those people who constantly put their hands up to help. What a lucky club we are.
Tuesday Social Bowls is up and running again this week. Note the early start: names are due in by 9.15am for a 10am start.Wednesday pennant resumes on January 11 and Saturday pennant on January 14. Good luck to all teams. Let’s finish the season off strongly.
It was sad to hear during the week of the passing of John Bowles. John was a very respected and
involved member of our club. Our sincere condolences go to John’s family. Vale John.
Cohuna Golf
We’re back on the greens after what we trust was a refreshing break for all our members.
The greens have benefited from the rest and will come up in top condition for the remainder of the season.
First up are our band of ladies who recommenced this week.
A reminder to all that the Tuesday competition now begins at 9.30am.
Mid-week pennant starts again on Wednesday, with Saturday pennant round 11 to follow.
Teams for both will be well circulated for those who are a bit out of the loop.
To provide a bit of nutrition there will be a few hamburgers on tap on Friday after practice for all those needing a boost.
Our jackpot pairs was also set to resume on Thursday, but with the expected extreme temperatures we’ll wait until the following Thursday.
We still require a new set of names to be submitted to Peter before then.
Around the club some games have been arranged for our pairs championship, with draws for more minor events posted as well. Jump in and get matches played to avoid that all-too-familiar bottleneck at season’s end.
It’s great to see the support for the Neighbourhood House bowls for teens.
Week one participants all had a ball and are looking forward to weeks two and three. Thanks to our members who assisted Tania in providing a great afternoon’s fun.
Check with Neighbourhood House if you are unsure of the details.
From now on players have access to a great range of tournaments, both locally and further afield.
Try to support local clubs where you can. It was disturbing to see a tournament this week cancelled through lack of entries.
Leitchville ran a successful triples on Sunday with Som Pascoe from Kerang the winner, while Peter, Jason and Frank picked up a few dollars for best last game.
Cohuna is the venue for next weekend.

Happy New Year to all.
We haven’t had any pennant since last year but social bowls has continued over the festive season.
Also, just before Christmas our Ian Westland Green was cored and topdressed with sand, with members completing the job before lunch so we could have bowls in the afternoon on the Alec Mitchell Green. Thanks to all the helpers – this green will be back in play in time for our Terry White Triples Day on Thursday and also for pennant for the next home game.
Back to the bowls: on Wednesday December 21, 11 members played social, with Frank Ritchie and Trevor Burmeister coming out winners as the only combination to win both games. Runners-up were Lorraine Ritchie and Marlene Rawson with seven shots up, to go with their win and a loss. Encouragement chocolates went to Laurie Gray and Sonia McLeish.

Some members have been travelling to neighbouring tournaments at Swan Hill, Wakool and Leitchville with results not indicating any wins, although Frank, Lorraine and Aldo won their three games at Wakool Gold Watch Day but were eliminated in the first play-off. Graeme Hayes has been to Swan Hill twice but hasn’t returned a winner. His company has sponsored some tournaments in the Murray Valley and Northern District.
