Across the Greens – Kerang Golf

THE last of the preliminary rounds are now complete and finals start on Saturday.Well done to our Division 3 team who have finished on top in their division and the Division 1 group who have finished in fourth position.

Last Saturday, in Division 1 Pennant, Kerang Golf hosted top team Cohuna Golf and in a high quality game, the defending champions travelled home with an 18-shot overall win. For Kerang Golf, the shining light was Frank Ritchie’s rink who had a one shot win over Jarrod Hammond, after a tight game all afternoon.

This was the only Kerang Golf winning rink for the day and therefore the winner of the Royal Hotel vouchers for this week. Congratulations to Frank, Jimmy McLeish, Lorraine Ritchie and Alan Hird.

The Howard McClelland team down by eight to Harrison Keely and Lloyd Murray down by 11 to “Bluey” Fletcher. Kerang Golf have now dropped to fourth on the ladder and will take on Barham at Cohuna Golf in the first semi-final next week.

Division 2 travelled to Cohuna Golf to take on their No.2 team and even though the scores show a comfortable win, the games were competitive for most of the day. Carol Pay’s team was best, going down by five shots. Overall, a 76/54 win for the home team.

Division 3 had the bye and the 12 points received will see them finish on top in the 3B division. This will see them play in the second semi-final at Cohuna next Saturday against Barham 4.

The Midweek team continued on their winning way with both rinks winning against Cohuna 3. Joycey Tuohey’s rink won by 18 and Lorraine Ritchie was an 11-shot winner. The last game is tomorrow, with finals starting the week after.

Thursday bowls was attended by 13 players, and not one combination won both games.

With a win and a tie Carol Pay and John Duckworth won the major prize with their win being by nine shots, compared to Rob Malseed and Marlene Rawson, also with a win and a tie, but only three shots up. They had to settle for second place. Encouragement chocolates to Laurie Gray and Craig Hicks.

The Ian “Squizzy” Taylor Barefoot Bowls continued last Wednesday evening, in very pleasant conditions.

The Hayes Real Estate team were the winners with 31 points and 19 shots up collecting the Choice Cut Butchers vouchers for this week. Well done to Graeme Hayes, Brett and Travis Hipworth and Dave Wood.

Also with 31 points, but only 15 shots up, was the Lake Charm Boat Club team of Jim and Bryce McLeish, Greg McNeill and Jeff Anderson. Encouragement chocolates to Hirdy’s Buslines.

The ladder sees Lake Charm Boat Club on top with 79 points, followed by Royal Hotel 72, Crackerjacks 69 and Lions on 68 in fourth position.

It is great to see the club matches being played during the week. The match committee would like to encourage all to continue to get the matches completed by the due dates.

Another night at our major sponsor, the Royal Hotel, on Saturday night with more than 30 members and their husbands, wives and partners enjoying the “Royal” hospitality.

Coming events: Our postponed (because of the heat) Terry White Triples is being held on Thursday, February 16. Entries have been a bit slow, so get your teams organised and let Aldo (0407 310 762) or Frank Ritchie (0409 439 029) know to enter.
