Across the Greens – Cohuna Golf

WELL done to all our members who contributed in such a great way as we hosted semi-final day last Saturday.

Board attendants, parking officers, caterers, bar staff and raffle sellers all played a big part in making the day run smoothly. The unsung heroes who clean up afterwards deserve a medal. Many thanks to our friends at Cohuna Meats and Catanese Fruit for their contributions towards the raffle, our main income source on the day.

On the down side was our performances in both divisions, fortunately ladder positions enable another outing this week. Actually there was very little between competing teams and we’re sure both sides will bounce back with wins this week.

David Orr’s team (+10) was the pick of second division, while Bluey Fletcher (+6) steered his quartet to a win in the ones.

On the home front our ladies played their pairs final on Tuesday, with Gwen and Yvonne prevailing by one from last year’s champs Linda and Rhonda. Well done to all four after a great game.

Ladies social the same day saw Deanne, Joan and Linda make up the winning side.

Wednesday night bowlers played their last game before finals, with Ron Farrant, David Mac and Mal Appleby hitting top form at the right end of the season.

Matches this week sees Farrant v Valentine and Hocking v Henty in top four games, With Payne v Henshaw (J) and Simmonds v Turnour in bottom four events. All other bowlers will most certainly get a game.

Thursday Pairs saw numbers return to a pleasing level, with close games the order of the day. Peter Coates and John Prout took the honours, with Ian Morrison and Linda McManus notching the repechage vouchers. The jackpot number of minus one wasn’t claimed so we begin the cash climb again.

Our 2023 champion Gary Easton makes all games full of excitement as he defeated Kerang’s Jason Wilson 25-24 in round one of the Champion of Champions.

He plays again next week at Kerang against the winner of the Tonn-Mann match. Best wishes from all at Golf. Yvonne, our lady champ, was unfortunately unable to take part.

Thanks to our keen social committee who provided pulled pork rolls on Friday after practice, and Ian and Steve who have the outside kitchen area looking a treat with the new lining and paint work.

Our twilight tournament this Sunday, a couple of spots left if a game and meal are to your liking, Cheryle Baker is still taking entries. Good to hear that better half Snow is on the mend after a major hip operation.
