Across the Greens – Kerang Golf

THE highlight of the week was the winning of the Waverley Trophy by a Kerang Golf team at Avoca last Sunday.

Skipped by Jim McLeish, with Laurie Gray, Gary Borg and Sonia McLeish, this team defeated a Waverley team in the first game, then Cohuna Golf in the second, before recording their third win against an Avoca team.

Kerang Golf have been a winner of this event, played between golf bowls clubs only, with previous wins at Rich River and Hilltop. Congratulations on winning this prestigious event.

Our social bowls was played on Thursday under threatening skies, but we were finished before the rain set in. Again, we played a round-robin type event with three games of six ends, between the four teams.

The only three-game winner was the Howard McClelland and Craig Hicks combination who won the top prize. Runners-up were Marlene Rawson and Sherilyn Barnes-Randall.

The encouragement chocolates to Allison Medson and Noel Robertson.

There wasn’t a social bowls event over the weekend as the Kerang Tournament was in progress. It was good to see numerous members supporting the Kerang Tournament over the Easter weekend. There is still a couple of days to go in this tournament (today and tomorrow), so if you want to play, let Aldo know or Alyne Fagg at Kerang.

A reminder to all members that the presentation day will be held this coming Sunday, with a game of bowls commencing at 1pm (register by 12.45pm), followed by presentations at the completion. Afternoon tea will be served in the clubhouse to complement the trophy presentations. Names are needed for catering purposes. Please place name on the sheet on the noticeboard. Visitors are most welcome to join us for the day.

Not long after that, our annual Anzac Day Triples will be held on Tuesday, April 25. A pie and soup is included in your entry fee, so get in early for this popular event. Names on the noticeboard or to Aldo (0407 310 762) or Frank Ritchie (0409 439 029).
