Across the Greens

Cohuna

TUESDAY’S social bowls was played in perfect conditions, with no wind and overcast skies.

We welcomed many visitors from Cohuna Golf, Gunbower, Pyramid and as far away as Ballarat. The latter came north to Cohuna for the warmer weather; who needs to go to Queensland with the balmy days we have in autumn and early winter.

There were many positive comments about the great state of our greens and also the friendliness of our club members. Alison and Sue were the match committee members responsible for picking the teams; well done, as the competition was even and keenly contested.

Twenty-nine bowlers played two games of 10 ends and the winners were Jason, Rhonda and Bill. Also in the winners’ circle were a group talented enough to make “Resting Touchers” on the day, Sue, Lynda, Marg M, Rodney, Noelene, Rhonda and Marian, who managed to do it twice! Thanks to Ken S. for the yummy prizes.

Thursday’s pie and soup day was played in warm and still conditions, the winners being Bob, Rick and Bernie, with runners-up Len, Alan and Doug. Third-place getters were Jeff, Jason and Pat.

Chicken schnitzels were on the menu for Friday night’s tea which was followed by lots of fun and laughs while playing carpet bowls. Rodney and Rhonda bowled the best on the night, capping off a great winning week.

Saturday’s social bowls attracted a whopping 34 players on another lovely day. Winners were Marg R. as skipper, Ann and Ros, great to see the girls in the winners’ circle again.

There will be no tea or carpet bowls on Friday night, nor will there be any social bowls on Saturday.

Many club members are travelling to Deniliquin for the long weekend tournament, and we wish them good luck with the bowls and lots of fun with the socialising. No doubt there will be many tales to tell in next week’s notes!
