Across the Greens

Cohuna

THE winners of Tuesday’s social bowls were Pat Quinn, Terri Hancock and Corale Jones.

The greens were fast and it was a warm spring day, perfect for bowls.

There were quite a few “resting touches”, meaning that accuracy is improving with the pennant season to start next month.

The life members board looks great with the newest names added and hanging in pride of place once again. Thanks to Peter Van der Zande for undertaking this job.

Socialising on Friday night was well supported and very lively, with the Shepparton visitors really enjoying themselves along with the locals.

On Saturday, 32 Cohuna bowlers travelled to Lake Boga for a pennant practice day.

Many thanks to Lake Boga for their wonderful hospitality and friendship.

Cohuna were the winners overall, the team comprising Mike Hoffman, Jeff Reade, Dallas Mathers and Rhonda Ballard taking the honours for the team with the biggest winning margin.

Congratulations and well done.

Kerang

THE randomly chosen jackpot number proved elusive again at Tuesday’s Black Duck Triples when no team had an overall score of +13, so today it is worth $282.

If you don’t have your name in, ring through on 5452 1194 before 11am and be there for a 12.30pm start.

High scores were the order of the day and chairman Alyne thought he was in with a good chance with +27, only to be pipped by Jim McLeish, Peter Waters and Don Jenkins with an amazing score of +30.

Second-game winners with a score of +3 were Ian Roberts, Barry Theobald and Bryce McLeish.

We might have to break up the Tunna and Bryce combination, as they took home the money the previous week, they must be playing well.

Lindsay Hein can celebrate in style this year with his birthday falling on Friday’s public holiday, have a great day.

It is great to have Peter Basile back bowling as well as ever and we send get well wishes to Marlyn Ware, George Fenton, Eddie and Gloria Fenton who have had health issues recently.

We were saddened to hear of the passing of Lorraine Adams’ mum in Queensland and offer our condolences to Lorraine, Angelo and Andy.

Ladies’ drawn pairs round robin was won by Gayle Teasdale and Jenny Harrison who, incidentally, was able to keep them in the games when Gayle’s turbo charged bowls held regular positions on the bank.

Runners-up were Som Pascoe and Yvonne Summers, just missing out on account of two drawn games.

Twelve players enjoyed Saturday bowls with Kevin Teasdale, Fraser Macquire and George Fenton/Jacqui Walsh proving to be the winning combination.

Perhaps the rest of us were distracted with having one ear on the football grand final broadcast from Swan Hill.

With midweek pennant commencing on October 4, there will be practice on Friday at 10am.

Kerang Golf

BOWLS preparations for the season ahead continue at Kerang Golf with the annual intraclub captain versus president day held last Sunday.

This day was sponsored by our turf consultant, Greg Dunn, and the club’s thanks go to him for his generous gesture and also for the ongoing maintenance programs for our greens that sees them in great condition leading into the season ahead.

There were five teams playing for each club leader in a pennant format and at the completion of 21 ends, the captain’s team came out winners with three winning rinks up and 21 shots up overall (97/76).

The best performed rink was skippered by Carol Pay, with husband Ken, Shirley Forbes and Wayne Neville taking out the major prize, winning by 18 shots.

The second-best winning rink was skipped by Rob Fabry, with John Duckworth, Dave King and Craig Hicks, with 12-shot margin over their opponents.

Both these teams played for the captain’s team and were the reason the captain’s team won again.

The third-best rink represented the president’s team, with Marlene Rawson, Rob Curtis, Joyce Tuohey and Lorraine Douglass being their leading team, with an eight-shot win. Chocolates to Graeme Hayes, Barry Theobald, John Murphy and Marie Miller.

A great day for the club and a perfect start to the pennant format. We are getting close to playing.

Thanks to our visitors for joining in our day and enjoying their bowls at Kerang Golf.

A great afternoon tea, again catered for by our sandwich specialists and enjoyed by all, with the northern most publican being most vocal about the excellent quality.

Last Thursday, 20 players had a game of 2-4-2 pairs and thoroughly enjoyed this format.

At the conclusion of the regulatory two games, there were four pairs who won both games.

With a total of 13 shots up, Trevor Burmeister and John Murphy came out winners, from Noel Robertson and David Wood with six shots up, who were runners-up.

Not far behind were Dave King and Trevor Linton as well as Sonia McLeish and Rob Curtis. Chocolates to Frank Boxshall and Barry Theobald.

Still plenty happening on the green with the annual AFL grand final public holiday practice match against Lake Boga on Friday at Kerang Golf.

Selectors will advise members of their playing positions after their meeting tonight.

Kerang Golf won the challenge shield last year and will be keen to make it back to back victories.

Our Geelong visit day was yesterday, so a resume of the results will be in next week’s report.

Practice sessions will be held on Tuesdays at 4pm, and members are encouraged to come and have a roll.

Friday night roll-ups will also commence when the pennant season starts, so again members are asked to attend and prepare for pennant.

Leitchville

THANKS to Pyramid Hill Bowls Club and to our members taking part in the practice match and opening day, which had a good roll-up of 36 bowlers taking part.

Raffle winners Carmen Cauchi, Ray Price, Heather Crichton, Tony Cantwell, Graham Moon, Greg Tate, Graham Wilson, Mayne Brewer, Robyn Fidler, Allan Fidler, Malcolm Irvine, Rose Hams and John Hipwell.

Thanks to the members who helped out doors and in the kitchen and bar, a job well done.
