Across the Greens – Kerang Golf

Kerang Golf

THE Division 1 team travelled to Cohuna Golf to take on one of the top teams and came home licking their wounds as the powerful home team won with a bit in hand.

The shining light was the Ritchie Murray rink, who came from behind to win their game by one shot against Harrison Keely.

Frank Ritchie was down by nine shots to ‘Bluey’ Fletcher and the Jarrod Hammond rink gave the Howard McClelland team a “donkey licking” by 20 shots.

Overall scores 83/55.

The highlight of the day was the Division 2 team playing at home and winning on two rinks, finishing with a comfortable 84/64 win against Barham 3.

Carol Pay led the way with an 18-shot win over Bill Boulton and also won the Royal Hotel vouchers for the best-performed rink on the day.

So, Carol, Ken Pay, Rob ‘Curly’ Curtis and Allison Medson will be enjoying the Royal hospitality with their win.

Graeme Hayes’ team was a four-shot winner over Peter Orr and Laurie Gray pegged back a large deficit against Alan Larpent to go down by only two shots.

Division 3 were also at home, playing Leitchville, winning only one rink and being beaten 71/61.

The Noel Robertson-led rink was a five-shot winner.

Marlene Rawson was down by three shots and Frank Boxshall, on the comeback from a knee injury, succumbed to the Laurie Crawford rink.

Our midweek team suffered their first loss for some time with Barham 2 winning on both rinks, albeit only by one shot and four shots respectively.

Lorraine Ritchie’s rink lost by one and Judy McKerrow’s by four.

The team for this week is Judy McKerrow, Rosie Laughlin, Joyce Tuohey and Lorraine Douglass.

Team 2 is Lorraine Ritchie, Sonia McLeish, Marlene Rawson and Allison Medson.

The Twilight Triples series commenced last Wednesday evening with a full green of players taking part.

Continuing their strong Wednesday form from the previous year, Hayes Real Estate came out winners of the Choice Cut Butchers vouchers with 31 points and 27 shots up, just in front of Laurie Gray’s team, also on 31 points but only 12 shots up.

Congratulations to Graeme Hayes, Dave Wood and Brett Hipworth.

Chocolates to the Misfits team of Andrew, Ronarian, Daniel and young Mitch Wilson, but they were not in attendance so Stace’s mob accepted the spoils.

Thursday bowls was enjoyed by 17 players in the warm conditions.

At the completion of the two games only the Noel Robertson, Rob ‘Curly’ Curtis and Dale Spinks combination had won both times.

Runners-up were Laurie Gray, Dave Wood and Trevor Burmeister with a win and a tied game.

The “chocolates” went to Sonia McLeish, Joycey Tuohey and Lorraine Douglass.

A great night at our sponsor’s hotel on Saturday with 30 members and partners.

Thanks to Rob and Jo Fisher at the Royal Hotel for their hospitality, as well as their ongoing support – word has it that our host was adjudged BOG.
