Across the Greens

Cohuna

IN weather made to order, bowlers have enjoyed excellent conditions during the past really busy week.

Last Tuesday had a good roll-up at social bowls, with some new faces being made very welcome to our club.

Good to see Michael Garner, an ex-local, and Dee, from Murtoa, enjoying their bowling. Winners on the day were Kate Peace, Sue Burgess and Ros Dunne.

Pyramid Hill held their tournament during the week, and congratulations to the Cohuna foursome of Frank Tonn, Rhonda Ballard, Ian Howard and Kaye Holmes who were equal winners on the day.

A great result and the team were glowing in their praise of the hospitality shown by the Pyramid Hill club.

Friday was the start of our annual autumn tournament with perfect weather and fast greens all weekend.

The pairs winners were Peter Bibby and Phil McManus, from Cohuna Golf. Runners-up were Pat Quinn and Jason Heard, also from Cohuna Golf.

Greg Beck and partner were the consolation winners and congratulations to all prize winners.

The weekend fours had our local bowlers victorious. Frank Tonn, Rhonda Ballard, Ray Storey and Phil Godwin won by four shots over the team from Ballarat.

Robert Mason, Neil Peoples, Eddie Harwood and Peter Considine from Midlands Golf and Bowls Club in Ballarat were runners-up.

Congratulations to the winners and well done to all bowlers who participated in a great weekend of bowling and friendship.

Kerang

AUTUMN is a great time of year to be in Kerang.

Last Tuesday had 24 players enjoying the weather and camaraderie on the greens at our regular Tuesday jackpot triples social bowls. Congratulations to David Orr, George Fenton and Judith Hipwell who were the best of the two-game winners finishing with 25 shots up.

Lindsay Hein, Reg Hipwell and Peter Basile bounced back after losing their first game with 14 shots up to take the second game prize, a good day on the greens for the Hipwell family.

That was where the prize money finished as the jackpot number drawn was plus 9, no-one had that score so the Jackpot kitty swells to $699 on Tuesday. How long can that continue? Maybe Tuesday will be your lucky day – names need to be phoned through to the club on 5452 1194 by 11am or written up on the noticeboard prior to that. You have to be in it to win it.

Members were out and about again enjoying themselves at tournaments last week with Barbara, Denise, Marilyn and Jenny visiting Pyramid Hill and Ross, Kevin and Jeff journeying out to Wakool on Friday evening.

Our Easter tournament begins on Friday and we are looking for more teams or single entries to make sure everyone has a great time.

Alyne will be happy to take phone entries or you can fill in the entry forms which are in the box on the wall near the front office.

Lorraine is organising an Easter raffle with more eggs than the Easter bunny could ever carry. Additional donations will be gratefully received and can be left at the club rooms no later than Thursday.

Please check the roster to see when you are on duty for catering and arrange your own replacement if you are unavailable on any day.

The club is looking spick and span for Easter, thanks to all who turned up for the working bees on Sunday and Monday.
