IN an effort to appeal to the Black Duck community, I will be trying to keep the notes on a regular basis so everyone is up to date in the happenings within this lawn bowls happy place.
So, I will be catching up on the last two weeks notes in this edition. As usual, quite significant events have transpired.
On June 4, there was a healthy field of 48 players. Max Parsons, Barry Theobald and Tiger Neville were the victors with two strong wins at a total of +32.
The second game’s greatest margin went to Brian Paley, Les Barnes and Stephen Kemp with a 16 shot win.
These results don’t accurately reflect how hard it was to play on the day with a stiff breeze. Well done on these performances.
The draw brought the number -21 forward and with nobody able to claim the cash prize, the jackpot grew a little larger to the tune of $1131.
On June 11, the weather was quite bleak with 30 brave souls countering the conditions with some fine bowls play.
The winners were Kane Kendall, Noel Hender and Max Parsons leaving the opposition to eat their dust by 27 shots.
Second game winners were Lindsay Hein, John Duckworth and Helen Pendlebury who triumphed by 12.
With the formalities out of the way, the main event was to take place. The drawing of the number which could change the lives of some very lucky folk.
Number +5 was drawn and the long reign of the jackpot was over. It was claimed by not one but two teams which included Noel Robinson, Rob Fabry and Fonzie Taylor and also Frazer Macguire, Barry Theobald and Tunna Roberts. How good was it to see “Tunna” back on the greens as a ring in and snag the big prize? Movies have been made from less momentous occasions than this. The sum of $1179 was shared between six players who gratefully accepted their share of the divvied booty.
The Black Duck jackpot reverts back to $60 and we hope to keep the numbers coming in.

On another note, there will be an afternoon tea for Gayle Teasdale’s birthday at the club on Sunday, June 23.
It isn’t every day you celebrate an octogenarian and her feats within, and for the club.
Notably, the stuff you don’t see behind the scenes. So let’s get around this fabulous lady and her distinguished event and celebrate it like it should be.
