KERANG GOLF

WELCOME back to the Kerang Golf Bowls notes and welcome to the new season of bowls in our area.

Some changes have occurred, with a new competition called Northern Rivers coming to fruition, with four clubs from our playing area and two from the Murray Valley Playing Area forming this new pennant group.

Kerang Golf is playing in this new competition, with teams also in the Northern District Playing Area Division 2 and Division 3 sections.

Welcome also to our new members – we hope you all have an enjoyable time at Kerang Golf Bowls.

Social bowls has continued at Kerang Golf over the winter period with good numbers enjoying their bowls in the winter sunshine.

Recent winners have been John Duckworth and Bryce McLeish a couple of Thursdays ago, with Ken Pay, Fraser MacGuire and ‘Fonzy’ Taylor the following Sunday, while last Thursday, our regular Kerang visitors Terry Nolan and ‘Tige’ Neville were the winners with a mammoth 17 shots up in their two wins.

The runners-up were Laurie Gray and Craig Hicks, with the chocolates going to Noel Robertson and John Duckworth.

On Sunday, under the threat of a stormy afternoon, 14 players attended and just managed to finish both games before the rain fell.

A quick exit saw most players leave before presentations could be done.

However, the winners were Craig Hicks and John Murphy, and if the chocolates had have been presented, Dallas Mathers and Rob ‘Curly’ Curtis would have been the recipients.

With the bowls pennant season fast approaching, plans for the month or so ahead are being put in place, with our opening day set down for Sunday, September 22, followed by the Lake Boga practice match on Friday, September 27, and the president-versus-captain day on Sunday, October 6.

Pennant commences the following Saturday, October 13, with draft pennant draws now available and the official draws to be published in the not-too-distant future.

The match committee will endeavour to contact all members about their intentions for these pre-season days and for both mid-week and Saturday pennant competitions, or you can mark the sheet on the noticeboard of your availability or not.
