KERANG GOLF
A QUIETER than normal week at Kerang Golf, with the last of the club games played last Tuesday evening.
It was the final of the 100 Up and for the third year in a row, Frank Ritchie prevailed, defeating Rob Fisher, to win the coveted Lindsay Stewart Memorial Trophy as the 100 Up Champion.
Well done to Frank, culminating a great year of bowls having also won the pairs championship and selection in the regional side.
Commiserations to Rob, who tried valiantly to keep in touch on the scoreboard, but found Frank’s consistency a bit too much in the end.
These trophies, as well as all others, will be handed to the season’s winners at our presentation day on Sunday, April 13.
The day will start with social bowls and will be followed by the presentation of trophies and then our Annual General Meeting.
All members are invited to attend all of the events, with nomination forms for committee positions available from Judy McKerrow.
Thursday Social Bowls was called off because of the 25mm of rain which we were all waiting patiently for. A few turned up for a social bowl on Saturday, with the winners Howard McClelland, Marlene Rawson and Marie Miller.
Social Bowls continues at Kerang Golf as always on Thursdays and on Sundays when the local football begins, with text messages to continue to be sent to remind members.
As well as social bowls, there are plenty of tournaments being held at our neighbouring clubs, starting with Gunbower hosting on Sunday, April 6.
Barham will hold a two-day triples tournament on Saturday, April 12 and Sunday, April 13, followed by Kerang over the Easter period, with medley pairs on Good Friday and their star day on Easter Monday, with our own Anzac Day triples on Friday, April 25.
Fliers have been distributed and an entry sheet has been placed on the noticeboard for our Anzac Day event, so make sure you get in early as this charity event is always very popular.
Other club fliers are on the noticeboard and if you need more information, please catch up with Aldo.
The trip away was held last weekend with members journeying to Moama.
There are no reports at this stage, but there was probably a rascal among the group, but as always, what happens on the trip, stays on the trip, is the often repeated script.
COHUNA GOLF
WHAT a great drop of rain late in the week, with all grassed areas around our club looking fantastic as a result.
Our ladies were able to play without problems on Tuesday, with fours the game of the day.
Winners were Yvonne, Val, Corrie and Glenda, who was back in rare form after a hand operation.
Thursday pairs ran foul of the rain, so apart from a couple of club games on Friday, things were pretty quiet at our greens this week.
The two sides who attended Country Week in and around Bendigo had a great time, with Col Barton, Spike Laursen, Bo Fawcett and Mick Carmody reaching the last eight in the fours competition.
Rain shortened play on the second day to allow finals to be played, but we didn’t mind driving home early in the rain.
We had a couple of fours in the Cohuna tournament and both won their respective sections on Sunday to reach the play-offs.
Ron Eckhardt’s side of Peter Bibby, Frank Trezise and Len Mathers were pipped in the quarter final by Jason Heard, Ian Coates, Gary Easton and Pat Quinn, who were then eliminated in their semi-final.
This week sees the first of our pie and soup days, with more than 20 teams nominated to date.
The format is two bowl triples, and I’m sure Jean Sutherland will take another couple of entries.
The Waverly Shield competition for Golf Bowling clubs is set for Sunday, which is always a great social day with the addition of a golf competition for clubs involved, please contact Jean if you wish to take part.
Friday night is our club’s presentation night, with all our winners being honoured over a two course meal courtesy of Ben’s Leitchville Catering.
Numbers are well up, so the evening should be a great success.
