Bowls Notes

KERANG GOLF

THE bowls scene is slowing down somewhat as the cooler days arrive, however at Kerang Golf, social bowls continues on Thursday’s and Sunday’s, with registration at 12.45pm for a 1pm start, with all most welcome to attend.

Last Thursday, 18 members and visitors had an enjoyable mini tournament, with three games of two bowl triples, each played over eight ends, with each team member playing in the three positions – lead, second and skip.

At the completion, only one combination had won all of their games, with congratulations going to Marlene Orr, Neil Paul and Marie Miller.

The runners up were Bryce McLeish, Carol Pay and Craig Hicks, who won two games and finished 16 shots up, while chocolates went to Les Gibson, Noel Robertson and Rob “Curly” Curtis.

Sunday’s weather was again sunny, but with regulars at the Pyramid Hill seafood day, there was only enough for a roll up.

The Graeme Hayes, Allison, Mick and “Hippy” team were close to the winners after being successful in all three games, but, alas, no seafood.

It is with pleasure that our application for a grant from the local Bus Stop Op Shop has been successful and will now be included as part of the purchase of new uniforms for the upcoming season.

The club is indebted to the Bus Stop organisation and congratulates them on their support of community events and clubs, including ours in our area – thank you.

A big thank you also to those members who attended the working bee last Thursday morning to dismantle the old shelters on the small green, in readiness for Tilburn Welding to manufacture and erect the new ones.

As these notes are probably the last for the current time, thanks go to the Gannawarra Times for accepting this contribution and keeping the local bowls fraternity informed.

A resumption in the later part of the year will see bowls back in the important pages of our local newspaper.
