Bowls Notes

KERANG

WHAT a big week it has been in bowls.

We have hosted four days of the Over 60’s State carnival, which was held in the Northern District and promoted our bowling club.

Bowls Victoria administrators and bowlers alike were complimentary of our efforts, which was summed up by Geoff, one of the visiting bowlers, who said “thanks once again for your very efficient organisation at the Kerang bowling club, with wonderful hospitality, catering and not to forget, your beautiful greens.

“We have thoroughly enjoyed playing at your club in the last two carnivals and hope to play there again next year.”

Thanks to all our club members who contributed to the tireless effort required to earn such compliments.

The support from Bowls Victoria CEO Tony Sherwill and his team of administrators and international technical officers, who worked beside our local umpires, was all we could have asked for.

They were also receptive to our ideas for improving next year’s event.

The splendidly prepared greens were a picture as bowlers in colourful uniforms using every colour bowls or combinations produced excellent bowling in the mixed pairs, men’s and women’s pairs and singles events.

The week culminated with the finals being played at the Barham Bowls Club on the weekend.

We sincerely thank CluBarham for the vouchers provided to host clubs each day, which we were able to use to our advantage.

Members are reminded of the very important meeting to be held at the club on Wednesday, June 4, at 7pm, when we will present the updated constitution for the conduct of our bowling club into the future.

Most members have received an email of the document, while there are copies on the main table at the club for those without an email to review and make constructive comment to the board.

You may have heard these words in another context before but – speak now or forever hold your peace.

As club activity is winding down, we will hold our end of season presentation dinner at the ‘Sporties’ on Sunday, July 13, beginning at 6.30pm.

Please add your names to the list on the notice board at the clubrooms.

Black duck jackpot triples resume today, with names to be in by 11am, with play to begin at 12.30pm.

Please listen to all of the message options before choosing which extension number to press before you leave your message if the phone is unattended when you ring.
