SHDCA Round 2: Nyah District v Woorinen

NYAH DISTRICT v WOORINEN

NYAH District continued their unbeaten start to the 2023-24 season with a commanding 86-run victory over rivals Woorinen.

Batting first, the Demons scored 9-184 runs from their 40 overs, thanks largely to a well-made half century to opening batsman Charlie Boulton.

A 58-run opening stand between Boulton and Mitchell Grinham (17) helped set up Nyah District’s innings, with Justin Toomey (31) and Tristan Dalbon (26) helping to push the Tigers’ required run rate above 4.5 an over.

Stefan Mangiameli, who was introduced into the Woorinen attack in the 29th over, led the way for the Tigers, with his four wickets helping to keep Nyah District’s target to under 200.

In reply, Woorinen attacked hard and batted with intent but lost wickets at regular intervals with Max Thompson (5-16 from seven overs) and English recruit Alex Wilson (3-35 from six overs) doing the bulk of the damage for Nyah District.

Darren Rushton (14) was unable to back up his heroics from a week earlier with the bat and was one of only three Tigers to reach double figures, along with top scorer Jason Mangiameli (29) and captain Cooper Fox (20).
