Handy tips at cricket training

CRICKETERS at Wandella Cricket Club have been treated to a training session hosted by Cricket Victoria.

Mallee Murray region head of cricket Jacob Dearaugo, a 200-game and multi-premiership player at Strathdale-Maristians, shared his valuable knowledge.

Dearaugo spoke to the Wandella players about taking their cricket ability to the next level.

Wandella Cricket Club treasurer Rohan Oliver said the club was lucky enough to have an existing relationship with Cricket Victoria and Dearaugo.

“They provide us with a lot of support through some grants and providing some training here and there,” Oliver said.

“Cricket Victoria contributed some money towards our new nets and shed, and the guys were very pleased to see our new setup down here at Riverside Park.

“As a club, we really appreciate the support of Cricket Victoria, and for them being happy to drive up here from Bendigo.

“It’s terrific from the club’s perspective.”

Oliver said training tips were provided to the club’s senior and junior players.

“They took a portion of the junior training, and then did some focused fielding training with the whole senior club, as well as a few batting and bowling drills,” he said.

“They also gave us some tips on increasing our intensity in the field, to hopefully minimise our time out there.”

Oliver said the new Cricket Australia Coach app was also introduced.

“It is a fantastic resource that can be used by our guys, and I think we’ll be using it going forward,” he said.

“It’ll really just help us find some new and better ways to train, which will help us to get better across the board.”
