Swans break duck

SWAN Hill have claimed their first A Grade victory of the season, set up by a first-innings bowling blitz against Ultima TUF.

Being sent out to bowl, the first wicket fell within five overs when opener Tom Bell was caught by Ammar Khalid off the bowling of Jacob Hatcher for 8.

The first ball of Hatcher’s next over again landed in the hands of Khalid, to dismiss Kyle Symons for a 13-ball duck.

When Hatcher took the wicket of Aidan Symons for 3, the Roodogs were stranded at 3/13.

Only two TUF batsman troubled the scorers with double-digit totals, but it wasn’t until No.7 Charlie Kingwill made 15 late in the innings.

The TUF batsman tried to stand tough after the rocky start but couldn’t find their footing against the three-pronged bowling attack of the Swans.

Skipper Lachlan Edwards took the bulk of the overs and bowled with incredible accuracy for 2/32 off 16 overs.

Proving again to be one of the more damaging Swans bowlers, left-arm spinner Ian Schodde tore through the TUF lower order for 4/25 in 10 overs.

A dramatic run-out fielded by Sam Collidge and Jacob Hatcher brought the Ultima innings to a close all out for 67 off just 33.5 overs.

Vice-skipper Hatcher followed up as an opening batter and provided the Swans with a solid rock down one end of the pitch.

Hatcher carried his bat through 80 balls as his side chased down the small total in less than 30 overs.

The opener had strong support at the top of the order, Edwards making 15 and Ammar Khalid 16.
