Woorinen v Wandella
WANDELLA have kept their Kookaburra Cup final hopes alive after defeating Woorinen by four wickets to secure their first win of the season on Saturday.
All-rounder Peter Moore was the hero for the Bombers, following up his four-wicket haul in the first innings by leading his team to victory with an unbeaten 55.
Batting first, Woorinen were bowled out for a just 88 for the second week in a row, with the Laing Waddingham joining Moore in taking four wickets to help rip the heart out of the Tigers’ batting line-up.
Waddingham finished with figures of 4/19 from his eight overs to be the pick of Wandella’s bowlers, while Mitch Uhlhorn led the way in his first hit of the season, top scoring for the Tigers with 28.
Wandella made hard work of the run chase and at 5/37 were staring down the barrel of their third consecutive loss to start the season, before Moore and Rhys Behrens put together a 25-run sixth-wicket partnership to get the Bombers out of danger.
With Behrens departing off the bowling of Darren Rushton, Moore then set about dragging Wandella over the line on his own, belting 26 of the final 29 runs to ensure the Bombers’ first victory of the season in just 24 overs.
Guri Singh joined Moore and Waddingham in taking for wickets four Woorinen, with Robert Rush and Rushton the only other wicket takers for the Tigers.
Barham Koondrook v Ultima TUF
BARHAM Koondrook have recovered from their disappointing loss to Nyah District last round with a hard-fought 16-run win over a determined Ultima TUF at the weekend.
After winning the toss and batting first, the Raiders were bowled out for 120 in the 31st over, with Warren Lolicato (35) and Lachlan Laursen (25) the only batters to genuinely look dangerous against the Roodogs attack, with the pair putting on a 46-run partnership for the third wicket.
Ultima TUF threw the ball around, using eight bowlers over their stint in the field, with off-spinner Cassidy Sibley the only one to bowl his maximum of eight for the figures of 2/19, the same figures as Charlie Kingwill.
The Roodogs’ run chase begun in shaky fashion, with both Lachie Edwards (3) and Jacob Hatcher (0) back in the shed early.
Kingwill (25) and skipper Kade Benfield (25) set about rescuing their innings with a 32-run partnership, before Benfield was bowled by Chameera Akurugoda, who took 5/29 off eight overs to be the chief destroyer for the Raiders.
Akurugoda cleaned up both Samuel Nelson (0) and Kingwill.
With the score at 5/58, Ultima TUF were unable to find the matchwinning partnership they needed, with regular wickets leaving them 16 runs short with eight overs left to bowl.
The win lifted the Raiders to second on the SHDCA ladder, with Ultima TUF third on percentage, ahead of St Mary’s Tyntynder, Wandella and Woorinen all with one win.
