Welcome to Marion Smith

Cohuna

Before I get onto the results, our prayers go out to the Walsh family who lost Dianne, loved wife of Sparra and a bowler from Wakool, who was a friend to everyone in Scratchy.

A big welcome to Marion Smith who has joined the club. I am sure with her talent it wont take long before Marion plays.

I have just a small gripe before I do the results, and that is the club did not have a scribe for over two years. One week into writing I was told that I spelt two names wrong.

Sorry members, I got kicked out of school in grade four and I am looking for an assistant.

At long last, Division Three played a game, against Kerang Golf.

It took place in windy conditions and Cohuna triumphed by 39 shots.

Nathan McGann played N Robertson and greeted the judge by 12 shots.

Darly Mathers played my old mate in Dale Spinks. After 25 ends a draw was the outcome.

I am keeping this to the last, that Allison Ainger with her talented crew of Bill Ainger, Reg and Judy Hipwell played Ian Taylor and won by 25 shots, with Reg Hipwell winning the socks from the club. Well done Reg.

Many thanks to the members who filled in at the last moment, a selectors nightmare, when you have your teams written out only to have to change them.

Friday was another good night with our members and the motor home crew enjoying themselves, and the poker jackpot increasing. It has gone to $70.

Next week our master chef in Noddy Hosking will be cooking for the occupants of 200 motor home vans, who will be parked on the oval.

Regards from the grade four drop out.

Cohuna Golf

Tuesday’s ladies winners were Irene Trezise, Barb Evans and Lucy Thrum, after a solid win over Yvonne’s team.

All that remains is to pry Barb away from her golf responsibilities as she would be extra handy in pennant.

Wednesday night saw a good attendance as people enjoyed the first outing for the year, with new faces galore.

We welcomed a couple of the caravan contingent into our ranks and gave them club pens as a memento of the night.

Winners were Max Simmonds, Mike McLoughlan, Helen Hall and Colleen Bennett.

Teams, as listed below, commence this Wednesday, but it’s certainly not too late to join in, either on a casual basis or as part of a team.

Teams:

M Simmonds, M Halliday, R Thompson;

M Appleby, A Cooke, Jay Stewart;

R McLoughlan, R Eckhardt, Jas Stewart;

D Mathers, Y Eckhardt, K Cramer;

S Whittaker, L Mathers, R Flinders;

B Barry, B Mawson, M Flinders;

R Farrant, TBA, H Hall;

D Peace, L Sutherland, G Hall;

G.Bowles, M McLoughlan, J Richardson.

55-and-over played at Lake Boga in pretty trying conditions, with only Len Mathers, Ray Opie, Ken Morris and Alan Dunne being good enough to win all games and thus the poultry for the day.

This week it’s in the opposite direction, over to Pyramid Hill.

Pennant began on a disappointing, if not unexpected note, with Division Three having to forfeit due to a lack of numbers.

Hopefully this will be the exception rather than the norm.

Division One hosted Kerang Golf and scraped home with the points thanks to the Fletcher rink, which won by 13 over Lloyd Murray.

John Keely hung on for a draw, while Jarred chased Andy Jeff’s tail all day, losing by seven.

There’s a break before the trip up to Wakool.

The twos played each other, with scores locked together for most of the day, with all players trying to make light of the blustery conditions.

The Blues finished the day off best and eventually prevailed by just seven shots. Yvonne defeated Greg Mathers by two.

Bugs was one up only on Bruce Morrison, with the Easton rink clinching the win with an eight-shot victory over Peter Bibby.

There are byes this week for the Ones and Navy sides, so numbers aren’t a problem.

Teams:

Division One (bye).

Division Two: White (home to Barham):

Y Eckhardt (s), P Quinn J Brown L McManus;

P Bibby (s), L Mathers, W Waters, B McLoughlan;
