Near perfect attendance

Cohuna Golf

Aided by a near perfect attendance, Wednesday night bowls rolled on, with the side of Doug Peace, Dallas Mathers and Geoff Hall performing best, having a big win over Glenda Bowles’ team.

Dallas and his side score duty this week.

Glenda bounced back with a win in the ladies comp, along with Shirley Whittaker, Val Farrant and Yvonne Eckhardt.

This group play this week at 1.30pm, in deference to a local funeral, with the reminder that there is no midweek pennant due to the Vic Open.

On that subject, Yvonne volunteered to assist with umpiring duties at the Open, and after a busy week at various venues around Shepparton, will have the honour of being the umpire for the men’s singles final on Saturday, well done.

Also under notice are Jarred Hammond, Ian Coates, Mick Carmody and Bluey Fletcher, who have been selected as part of the Murray-Mallee trial group preparing for the State Championships in February, also an excellent effort.

We are due to host 55-and-over this week, but based on advanced forecasts, our chances of holding the day look slim.

A final decision will be made Tuesday evening.

Last time out at Leitchville we saw Des, Bugs, Mick and Barry on the winners’ dais after a coin toss, with the only other three game winner, from Barham Sports.

The Northern Carnival was most successful, with all the helpers at our club ensuring the visitors from far and wide were well looked after.

Some success went our way also, with Peter Bibby and Frank Trezise finishing equal third in the pairs, but were beaten in the semi by the eventual Horsham City winners.

Bluey Fletcher skipped a rink which won their section, a solid effort also.

With no pennant on Saturday, Barham jumped in the vacant space and held their star day, sponsored by Golden Rivers Real Estate.

Our reps came out and won the day. Well bowled to Peter, Bruce and Mick.

Ours is fast approaching, being on December 8.

The Christmas Hams night events begin next Monday with Leitchville hosting the first round.

We need to support this fully as we host the event the following week, we will be looking for as many starters as possible.

Finally, anyone interested in the State Mixed Pairs event should enter with Yvonne by November 24, while we have been notified that the Northern District C of C Pairs has been advanced to February 21. Let’s get those remaining matches underway.
