Kerang

Ladies golf – monthly medal on February 2

The cooler weather encouraged 12 ladies out to golf.

Little did they know that they would have to battle strong wind up the fairways.

It is not until you walk the course that you realise the extent of the storm damage.

A great team of workers has been clearing the debris and making play possible.

Monthly medal winner was Joyce Boyd with a net 73 score. Runner-up was Meryl Cameron (75 net) and Jan Harry was also in the ball pool with 77 net.

Nearest the pin on the 9th was won by Michelle (with a birdie) and Ruth McAlister had the least number of putts.

It was lovely to welcome back Rhonda Willoughby to golf after several months away. She was rewarded with a new pen. She certainly knows how to hit a straight ball.

We look forward to the return of more players next week at 9 am for 9.30am.

Twilight golf

Tuesday night and one of our newest members Robert Dick, has shown us what he is capable of with a score of 45 – 12 = 33 and in second spot was Malcolm Knight from Quambatook with 49 – 13.5 = 33.5.

Nearest the pins were Chris Gray on 13th and Ron Schultze on the 16th.

This night is a great entry into golf for all people who want to give golf a go.

Cost is only $8 for nine holes and $6 for Kerang Golf club members.

Saturday golf

Monthly Medal round and Blake Shay (11) obliterated the field to win with a 75 net 64, considering he went into the water twice, well done on a great round of golf.

Ladies’ winner was Michelle Dillon (9) with 82 net 73.

In the ball pool were Doug Meehan (6) 69, Logan Keighran (5) 70, Greg Gin (15) and Tony Laughlin (9) both on 71, Chris Waterson (4), Gary Hayes (17) and Jim Apostolelis (19) all on 72 net and the unlucky loser on c/b was Peter Jones (14) also on 72 net.

Nearest the pins went to Graham Wyte who was six inches from a hole in one on the 3rd, Joe Tartaglia 5th, Gary Hayes 9th, Peter Hall got the money on the 13th and Jack Hewitt 16th. Blake Shay, Doug Meehan and Logan Keighran, all had the best stroke scores of 75 and David Stubbs took the pen with a big smile.

Summer pennant starts at Kerang Golf Club this coming Sunday, tee off is 9am. So those that are picked please be on time and let’s see if we can win this year as it’s been a while between wins.

Cohuna

WHAT a great day we had last Thursday welcoming the members of Devil Bend Golf Club to Cohuna.

The R&R team did themselves proud as well, showing up in good numbers to make the day a total success.

The grounds crew did a fantastic job presenting the course in excellent condition – a job well done to all.

Everyone enjoyed the pre-round sausage sizzle and watching Bruce Matson win all the raffles.

The golf was pretty sharp too, with Hugh Rice taking first prize with 40 points and Angus Harris coming in with 38.

Isn’t it nice how the local lads lay off and let the visitors win?

Ruff Farrant led the way for the locals coming in with 38 from Mal Appleby and Ted Jackson scoring 37.

NTP’s went to Garry Yates on 2, Devil Bend skipper Peter Eaton on 8, Mal Appleby on 11 and Ted Jackson on 17.

Saturday was Stableford again and John Power shot the lights out with 41 points off a handicap of 7 – great round, John.

Another excellent round was played by Matt Miles from Mitiamo who sizzled with 40 points. Al Moloney had a great round as well with 39 as did Rob Wilson and Bruce Bird with 38 apiece.

NTP went to Rob Wilson on 2, John Power on 8, Ron Farrant on 11 and Dom Baxter on 17.

Sunday’s monthly medal was taken out by Dennis McGlone scoring nett 67 – well done, Dennis.
