Kerang Golf

AFTER our great presentation day on the Sunday, the Anzac Day Triples Tournament was played on Monday.

A full complement of 24 teams graced the greens in perfect autumn sunshine.

There were teams from Barham, Cohuna Golf, Culgoa, Gunbower, Pyramid Hill and Wakool, as well as local teams from Kerang and Kerang Golf.

This is the best roll up of teams for this charity day for many years – thanks to all who came to support the RSL.

The golf club was again expertly decorated – many thanks to Faye Sly for your continued efforts on this day.

With a pie and soup lunch before bowls and the greens running perfectly, a great afternoon of bowls was completed, followed by some cheese and biscuits snacks and a total of four X three game winners.

After calculations, the Kerang Golf team of Mick Pors, Allison Medson and Stuart Robinson came out winners with 76 points and a consistent display over the three games, to win the vouchers, courtesy of the Kerang Traders Incorporated.

In his acceptance speech, “Robbo” was congratulatory to his team and his “coach” and the club for the conduct of the tournament.

He was actually “ecstatic” at winning.

In second place, winning on a countback of shots up, was the team of Sherylyn Barnes/Randell, Dave Randell and Jenny Harrison with 75 points and +14, and also winners of vouchers from the Kerang Traders from third placegetters, the team from Barham of Rod Kendall, Ken and Lyn Ashton who finished +9, but winners of the Royal Hotel vouchers for their “podium” finish.

Consolation chocolates to the Wakool team lead by Rick Ainsworth, with Frank Ryan and Graeme Rowland, who also won their three games, but only scored 73 points.

Our encouragement award went to the Gunbower team led by Gary “Frog” Spittal, but they were not in attendance, so the Peter Slingo team from Barham were the recipients of this “coveted” award.

At the presentations, held in conjunction with the golf club, the proceeds of the day, which includes the entry fees for both golf and bowls and the income from the raffle held on the day, $2280 was handed to RSL club president Rob Suttersby for use by his club.

Rob was thankful of the generosity of all and lauded all the participants for their continued support of this annual event.

Thursday bowls was attended by 11 members and friends, with the weather looking a bit threatening.

However, we got through our two games and at the completion we only had the one combination who won both games.

Congratulations to Jo Peters on her first win, at her first competition, paired with Howard McClelland.

Runners up were Rob Malseed, Jimmy and Bryce McLeish with a win and a tie.

The encouragement award went to Jeff Anderson, Joyce Tuohey and Dale Spinks.

Our social bowls will continue on Thursdays and Sundays with registration at 12.45pm for a 1pm start.

All are welcome.
