Thursday R&R Stableford on June 16

On a day with a damp start, 20 golfers, including a visitor from Wyong GC, Stephen French. Ray Gannon (32) had a blinder of a day to win with 41 points. In the Ball Pool, Phil Lloyd (11) and Kevin Lane (17) both on 37 and Andrew Spitty (+2) got the last ball on a c/b from his daughter Olive (1), they were on 34. President Terry Turvey (12) obviously is not much of a mudlark as he won the pen on c/b from John Murphy.

Saturday Golf

In what was the best day for golf weather wise in ages, it was spoiled when golfers turned up only for Captain Jack to announce we were playing par. VETERANS

Veteran golfers may have been suffering from a long weekend hangover because only 19 veterans turned out for the Grass Green Championships at the Kerang Golf Club on Tuesday.

Lady champion, with a scratch score of 79, was Michelle Dillon, and Jean Youl had a nett score of 70.

Sweet swinging Don Ross is Men’s Champion with a scratch score of 83 while Ray Henshall fluked a nett score of 73.

NTP winners were Carol Letheby, Ruth McAlister, Michelle Dillon, Ian Dodd, Hank van de Veen and Graeme Bray. Ball Pool: Carol Letheby, Marg Learmonth, Graham Wyte and new member Jack Hewitt.

The next veterans event is at the Lakeside Golf Course on July 19, 9am assembly for a 9.30am start.

The report is that the course is in great condition and a special meeting will be held after golf to discuss the increase in cost of green fees and lunches. Would be great to have a good roll up of veteran golfers.

COHUNA

“BEWARE the injured golfer” was the cry that went up last Thursday when Norm Cue returned to R&R after recovering from a nasty exchange between his foot and some protruding nails (thongs not counting as protective footwear).

Norm played very well in his return after a few weeks to hand in the best score of the day, which was 36 points.

Visitor Richard Hancock managed 35 with Greg Roberts pipping Alan Moloney on countback with 34. NTPs went to Ted Jackson, Mal Appleby, Greg Roberts and Norm Cue.

Saturday’s excellent conditions could only draw a small field but Hayden Bird had a big day with +3 in the par event. Robert Johns was also pretty handy as was Doug Peace, the pair being split on countback with +1. NTP’s went to Greg Roberts on 8 and Robert Johns on 11.

Captain Liz Thynne had a hot score of 40 on a very chilly Sunday to take the prize from Robyn McGraw with 34. Liz also had NTP’s on 11 and 17. For the men, Dom Baxter had the best score with nett 72 from Joel Woolhouse and Mitch Treacy with 73. Men’s NTPs went to visitor Les Taylor on 2, Dom Baxter on 8 and Kevin Dehne on 11.

The men’s pairs knockout final was also contested but unfortunately one pair was a man short so Scott Carmichael was on his own. Scott managed to get through 16 holes but at the end of the day it was Brian and Greg Roberts taking out the contest.
