Cohuna

THURSDAY’S R&R Stableford winner was John Dickins with 34 points on countback from Don Magick. Doug Peace came in third with 33. NTPs went to Rob Wilson on the 2nd, John Dickins on the 8th and Norm Cue on the 11th.

In Saturday’s perfect conditions, Brenton Smyth came out on top in a countback from Greg Roberts, both with good scores of 39 points. Leigh Gorrie also played well with 37, as did Hayden Bird and Trevor Farrant with 36. NTPs went to Leigh Gorrie on the 2nd and 8th, Gary Valentine on the 11th and Jamie Angove on the 17th.

Sunday’s competition was par and for the ladies Ros Dunne played best with a cracking +3. Next best was Lois Stone with -2. For the men, it was a case of happy families with best scorer Ted Jackson finishing with even from his son, Adam, with -1 on countback from Darren Barry and Alan Walkington. For the ladies, Corrie Murchie took the prize for NTP on the 11th with Dennis McGlone on the 2nd for the men, Adam Jackson on the 8th and 17th, and Gary Valentine on the 11th (as he did the day before). Not only did Gary repeat his NTP, but managed another eagle, which he achieved the week before, this time on the par-five 9th. Well done Gary.Kerang

THE Kerang course is looking a picture after the recent rain, but the Wednesday ladies were looking for a bit of sunshine on August 23. After another wet, showery day, Jenny Waterson (17) had a nice round, parring eight holes to finish with 37 points. Jan Harry (15) was coming into some form with 33 points and Meagan Taylor (16) finished with 32 points. Twenty-nine points was a popular score, with Marg Learmonth (23) taking the last ball in the ball pool from Ange Morton (15), Carol Dear (24) and Nola Robinson (28). Rosie Laughlin has a nice new pen. This week’s Wednesday play is par and hit-off is at 10am.

On a better day for golf, Thursday, August 24, Tony Laughlin (10) was showing no signs of slowing down won for the second week in a row with 37 points in R & R Stableford. Runner-up was captain Jack Hewitt (13) on 36 and the ball pool included Red Manners (7) and Joe Tartaglia (16), both on 35. Nearest the pins were Jack Hewitt on the 3rd, Kevin Sambrooks on the 9th, Col Wilkie on the 13th and Chris Waterson on the 16th. Unfortunately, no one landed on the 5th. Doug Ellwood is the proud recipient of a new pen.

In Saturday Stableford, the men’s winner on a glorious day for golf was Roger Pay (15) on 40 points and the ladies’ winner, who had been finding form, last week taken it to a new level. Jan Harry (15), with 41 points, won by six from Rosie Laughlin (35). In the ball pool was Chris Gray (16) and Tony Laughlin (10), both 37, Allan Free (19) and Rosie Laughlin, both 35, and Michelle Dillon (9) on 34. Shirley Jenner, after her blistering early-morning round, won the pen prize. We welcomed Walter Bower from Omeo to our comp and hopefully he enjoyed his round.

There were two matches in the Ian Westland 4BBB Annual Competition with the Roger Pay-Peter Hall combination defeating Gary Pay and Chris Waterson. Chris Gray and Blake Shay defeated Jack Hewitt and Max Wilson, so well done to those two groups.

Upcoming events are the Visual Appeal Four-person Ambrose on grand final eve and the NDGA Grass Green Championships, which will be held at Cohuna on September 18.

This year, for our Twilight Golf Competition, we will play on Fridays, beginning the week after the Melbourne Cup.
