The 19th hole

Cohuna

THE R&R crew welcomed some players not normally seen on a Thursday and it’s great to see more players coming out and enjoying the fun and weekly games.

Geoff Miller was the runaway winner with 38 points, some distance ahead of Ron Farrant with 34 and Adam Jackson with 33. NTPs went to Geoff Miller on the 2nd, Dennis McGlone on the 8th, Rod Southon on the 11th and Adam Jackson on the 17th.

Saturday’s Stableford winner was Rhys Bradley with 35, from Brenton Smyth with 34 and Leigh Gorrie and Ron Farrant, both on 33. Saturday’s NTPs went to Kevin Crane on the 2nd, Brice Bird on the 8th, Troy Van Der Zande on the 11th and Adam Jackson repeating Thursday’s performance on the 17th.

Sunday’s excellent conditions brought out a good field to witness Tim Mitchell take out the Monthly Medal with net 70.

Chris Carmichael returned an even 72, Paddy Doyle 73, and Shannon Treacy and Denis McGlone had 74. NTPs went to Mal Appleby on the 2nd, Adam Jackson on the 8th, Geoff Miller on the 11th and Shannon Treacy on the 17th.

In the ladies’ round, Lois Stone had a great score of 38 points, from Wendy Woods with 37 and Linda Moloney with 33. NTPs went to Sandra Hancock on the 2nd, Lois Stone on the 11th and Linda Moloney on the 17th.

SPRING is here, which means that the plovers are breeding. Megan Taylor and Chrissie Downs had to stand guard on Wednesday to protect Renee Wilkinson, who was putting in her second card, from our not-so-friendly plovers. There was lots of yelling, dancing, and laughing going on. Hopefully they will move on soon.

Nola Robinson (28) won the day on a countback from Meryl Cameron (15) with 32 points. Meryl had a nice birdie on the 16th. The course was heavy in racing terms, with Chrissy Downs (27) the only other player to make 30 points. Michelle Dillon (10) collected the last ball in the pool with 29 points and won the NTP coffee voucher on the Chino’s 9th hole. Thanks Raylene.

Welcome back to Lorraine Bray – who was seeing the ball so clear it might take a while to adjust her golf game – taking home the Pen Award and suggesting that we get some note pads.

Next week’s play is for the Monthly Medal Shirt, with hit off at 10am.

In Thursday’s R&R Stableford, there was another good field in good weather. Five golfers tied at the top with 36 points each. The eventual winner for the day on countback from the rest was the sweet-swinging Ken Williams (21). The others in the ball pool were Col Wilkie (12), Joe Tartaglia (16) and Gavin Teasdale (13) and Chris Gray (16) just missed out. Nearest the pins went to Brendan Shields on the third, Col Wilkie on the 5th, Gavin Teasdale on the 9th, Chris Gray on the 13th and no one got on to the 16th.

With footy finals at Kerang and Wandella, Saturday’s Monthly Medal stroke field had only 16 golfers in good weather, but the wind was a factor for the day. Men’s winner of the Monthly Medal, with a fine score of 66 net, was Col Wilkie (12). Our handicapper is sure to hamstring him after that score. The ladies’ winner was Deaniee Henderson (19) with a net 68. The ball pool was Michelle Dillon (10) 72, Doug Meehan (5) 74 and the last ball went to Pat Featonby (20) net 74. Nearest the pins went to Chris Waterson (3rd), Col Wilkie (5th), Jack Hewitt (9th), Ross Nesbit (16th) and no one claimed the money on the 13th. Casey Gillen turned up claiming he was going to be in the placegetters on Saturday, and won the pen, well done Casey. Don’t forget the captain’s play-nine comp is still running and you can play that as many times you like. The Visual Appeal Ambrose is on September 23 and the club championships will be here before too long, so get practising.
