Down The Fairways

Kerang

THERE was a larger field at ladies golf on December 7 to play stroke for the monthly medal award.

The competition was hot for a new blue shirt, before it changes colour next year. It was good to welcome Jean Youl and Jan Milne back.

Shirley Jenner had a day out with a net score of 69. She also was nearest the pin on the 9th and had the least number of putts.

Margaret Learmonth and Nola Robinson were in the ball pool with scores of 70 and 72 net. The walkers did a good job as it warmed up.

Next week is the last round of the championships. All players are welcome. Play will be followed by the customary afternoon tea. With cooler weather forecast play will start at 10am with assembly at 9.30am.

Eighteen members played an R&R Stapleford round last Wednesday, to enable members to attend Rob Elliott’s funeral the following day.

With hot windy conditions the scores were many and varied, but the best was produced by Terry Turvey with 40 points.

Gavin Teasdale continues with his good form with 37 points, followed by Wayne O’Neill and Tony Laughlin both with 35 points. The Pen Award went to president Peter Jones, who went from chocolates to boiled lollies!

NTPs went to 5th G Teasdale, 9th W O’Neill, 13th G Pay and 16th C Wilkie.

Twilight golf which is played on Fridays now. Last week was won by Col Wilkie with 37-5.5=31.5 and runner-up was Joe Tartaglia on 41-7.5=33.5.

At our gatherings on Friday nights at the golf club we farewelled our long serving greenskeeper David Drake who has retired after many years looking after our golf course and bowling greens.

Also on the night the Golf Club also recognised our past president for his many years of work and the many positions he has held within the club by presenting him with life membership, something that was well deserved, congratulations Terry.

Saturday saw over 40 golfers hit the course in perfect weather to play for the Greenwood Mugge.
