Down the Fairways – Kerang

Kerang

AT Ladies Wednesday Golf Monthly Medal, the picking of the new shirt for our Monthly Medal saw a big field of 15 turn up on a very hot day.

Some ladies played early and the clubhouse leader was Nola Robinson with 95-27=68, but in came Jenny Waterson with 85-17=68 to pip her on a countback. Good luck choosing the shirt, Jen.

The winner of the day’s event was Marg Learmonth with 87-23=64, dropping her handicap by two strokes. Jan Harry had another nice round with 82-11=71 and winning the putts with 25. Meryl Cameron had the best shot of the day on Chino’s 9th hole.

The weather is going to be cooler on Wednesday so hit-off at 9.30am, happy hitting.

The rich and retired are a tough bunch with the hot weather here and still good numbers turned up for a round at Thursday’s R&R Stableford. Robert Dick (17) 39 points won the day by two points from Casey Gillen (19) on 37.

In the ball pool was Casey, Brendan Shields (12) 36, Graham Wyte (11) and Col Wilkie (9) both on 35 got the last balls on countback from Terry Turvey (13), Jack Hewitt (11) and Peter Jones (15). Nearest the pins were Doug Meehan 3rd, Gary Hayes 5th, Kevin Lane 9th and Chris Waterson 13th and 16th and the latter nearly was his second hole in one in a week.

Twilight golf in the hot weather last Friday had a small turnout and the winner of the night was Jordan Simpson 42-10=32, very closely follow by Jan Harry 38-5.5=32.5. I don’t have results of NTPs, hopefully next week.

Don’t forget Twilight is every Friday from 4pm for nine holes, cost is $6 for members and $8 for non-members, and non-golfers are most welcome to come and play as it’s a great way to introduce yourself to golf.

Saturday Golf Greenwood Mug was played and won by Brad Short (10) with 38 points on countback from Kevin Sambrooks (17).

Ladies’ winner, and a continuation of good form, was Jenny Waterson (17) 38 points to take the Goblet for the month from Nola Robinson (29) 37. (Similar outcome following on from Wednesday’s results.)

Ball pool Kevin Sambrooks, Jordan Simpson (21), Greg Gin (17), Casey Gillen (19), Nola Robinson and Robert Dick (16), all those players on 37 points, and Peter Hall (13) missed out on countback.

Nearest the pins were Jenny Waterson 3rd, Peter Hall 5th, Scott Harry 9th, Kevin Sambrooks got the money on 13th and Brad Short on the 16th. Secretary Shirl has a new pen to write up her monthly reports.

We have the Laughie 4Ball this coming Sunday and the Autopro 4P Ambrose on Thursday, Australia Day, so get your teams in for those events and the Ambrose is open for non-golfers as well.
