Down the Fairways

Kerang

LADIES Wednesday golf had 13 taking to the course in very pleasant weather and it was Jan Harry scoring a win with 33 points, runner up was Nola Robinson with 32 points.

Ball pool saw Michelle Dillon and Deanne Free collect the balls on offer with 32 points each.

In Thursday golf, Col Wilkie (8) continued his improvement to 75 off the stick and win the day with 40 points. Well done Col, it shows what practice can do.

In the ball pool we had Tony Hall (19) on 39, good to see him playing well again, Phil Lloyd (10) 37 and Tony Laughlin (10) on 35.

Best on the par 3s were Phil Lloyd 5th and 16th, Joe Tartaglia 9th, Graham Wyte 13th and no one on the 3rd.

Saturday golf had a good field of 35 golfers and we had two golfers tie at the top on 41 points but the winner on countback was David Knight (16) from Blake Shay (10).

Ladies winner was the ever-improving Donna Grant (22) with 39 points and I’m sure it won’t be long before she’s back to her low handicap.

Tony Laughlin (10) come in with 40 points and probably thought he had won the day but it was not to be and the rest in the ball pool were Barry Gladman (28), David Gray (14) and Peter Jones (14), all had 38 points, Brian Gibson (12) 37 and James Meehan jnr (6) won the last ball on countback from Jan Harry (11), both had 36.

Ball winners on the par 3s were Brian Gibson 3rd, Peter Jones 5th, James Meehan Jnr 9th, Blake Shay 13th and David Gray on the 16th.

Blake Shay had the best stroke score of 76 and David Stubbs won himself another pen much to the surprise of Gary Pay.

Twilight golf is still running although numbers are very low so we need people to make their way done there on Fridays and after playing join in the frivolities in the clubhouse of jokes and raffles. Pat Featonby won the night with a 48–9.5=38.5.

The last round of Summer Pennant and the final was played at Kerang last Sunday and in the morning Kerang 2 played against Nyah West to see who would take on Pyramid Hill in the final.

We managed to beat Nyah West 2/1 to take on Pyramid in the final and after a close tussle all afternoon the groups of Chris Waterson/Phil Lloyd won their match 2/1, Scott Harry/Deaniee Henderson lost 5/3 and Mark Henderson/Brendan Shields won 6/4 to make Kerang 2 team Summer Pennant winners 2023.

Also thanks to Ron Schultze, Kevin Lane and Ross Nesbit who helped the team to the finals.

Veterans

THERE was plenty of excitement at Barham for the first veterans Stableford event of the year on Tuesday.

Captain Graham holed in one on the par three 15th, Graeme Bray hit birdy on the 3rd.

Not to be outdone, Joe Tartaglia hit a duck – feathered type – after mouth to mouth, the duck scampered off.

All veteran clubs were represented.

The lady’s winner was Marg Moore on a countback from Lisa Hyne and Carole Letheby, all on 31 points.

NTPs were Lisa Hyne, Michelle Dillon, Lorraine Bray and Lorna Stuchbree (welcome back to golf Lorna).

The men’s winner was also determined on a three-way countback.

Fred O’Bryan with 36 points from Graeme Bray and Ian Dodd.

NTPs went to Rick Austerberry (twice), Peter Roberts and Graham Wyte (hole-in-one).

The next veteran’s event is at Kerang at 8.30am assembly for 9am start, Tuesday, March 21.

The AGM will follow golf presentations. A good attendance would be great.
