Down the Fairways

Kerang

ON Wednesday the final round of the ladies’ singles championships was completed and the champion for 2023-24 is Olive Spitty.

Scoring 71+71+74=216, Spitty also won the A grade championship, plus the best net score over the three rounds.

She set a new course record of 70 – the previous was 71, set also by Spitty – and shot the lowest score ever as a ladies’ club champion for Kerang Golf Club.

Also of note is that it’s believed that for the first time ever the women’s club champion’s 54-hole stroke score was better than the men’s 54-hole club champion’s score.

The B grade champion is Shirley Jenner (101+95+95=291) and coming second was Carol Dear (104+99+103=306).

The best net score over the three rounds was Meagan Taylor 223.

The Les Jobling Trophy (played as a stableford event during the men’s championships) winner is Olive Spitty on 35 points and runner-up Joyce Boyd on 31 points.

The day’s event was won by Meagan Taylor (87-18=69).

Ball pool: C Dear 99-27=77, M Learmonth (96-23=73) and S Jenner (95-22=73).

Thursday was R&R stableford.

This was the last opportunity for the men to finetune their games coming into the last round of the championships on Saturday.

Twenty-six members fronted up on a great sunny, hot day trying to win.

The best was Chris Waterson firing a great score of 41 points.

In the ball pool, Matthew Heavyside made a rare appearance and shot 39 points, L Hadfield 38, K Williams (another making a return to golf) 37 and D Ellwood 36.

NTPs went to M Heavyside 3rd, C Waterson 5th and 9th, R Fabry 13th and P Lloyd 16th.

Saturday was the men’s final round of the singles championships.

The 2023 men’s singles champion is Andrew Spitty (75+75+70=220) and runner-up is Chris Waterson (77+76+77=230).

B grade champion is Graham Wyte (86+87+83=256), runner-up is Scott Harry (83+89+87=259).

C grade champion is Allan Free (95+97+93=285), runner-up is Casey Gillen (97+95+99=291).

The Charlie Nesbit Trophy (best net score over three rounds) went to Chris Waterson 218.

The NDGA Medal (best net score over two rounds) was won by Peter Hall 145.

The Matt Colville Memorial Medalist of the Year (from all players who have won the Monthly Medal for the previous year) is Blake Shay.
