Ladies Monthly Medal Stroke – Wednesday, April 9

Welcome back to Rhonda Willoughby, who played her first game back from illness.

The day’s winner was Rowena Hebry with 40 points, while the ball pool went to M. Dillon (35 points) and M. Cameron (34 points), while Chino’s nearest the pin was won by Liz Thynne (9th).

R & R Stableford – Thursday, April 10

It was a good day for golf, with light winds and sunshine greeting everyone who took to the course.

Chris Waterson led the way with 36 points ahead of Terry Turvey and Tony Laughlin, also on 36 points, while others in the ball pool were Brendan Shields and John Ackland with 35 points.

The nearest the pins went to G. Gin (3rd), D. Meehan (5th), C. Waterson (9th), B. Shay (13th) and D. Knight (16th).

Greenwood Mugge – Saturday, April 12

On a very good day for golf, a smaller than usual field played for The Greenwood Mugge.

John Pay won the Mugge with 40 points ahead of J. Apostolelis (38 points), S. Jenner (36 points), B. Shields, G. Wyte, J. Martin (36 points) and C. Waterson (35 points).

The nearest the pins went to Jo Martin (3rd), J. Apostolelis (5th and 16th), C. Waterson (9th) and S. Jenner (13th).

On a glorious sunny autumn day, our annual Riverland Par 3 day was held on Sunday, April 13, with more than 90 players vying to win $100 on each of the 18 holes.

The ladies scratch winner of the day was Jan Harry (58), with Michelle Dillon runner-up (60).

The men’s scratch winner was Chris Manners (59), with the runner-up being Shaun Ritchie on (61).

The ladies Nett winner Joanne Martin (55) on a countback to Jenny Waterson.

The men’s Nett winner was won by Brady Gillingham (52) on a countback to Chris Gray.

The teams event went to Jo Martin, Michelle Dillon, Shirley Jenner and Terry Turvey 165.

Kerang Golf Bowls

A BIG Sunday at Kerang Golf Bowls with our annual Presentation Day and Annual General Meeting filling in the afternoon after our Sunday Social Bowls.

The presentations of all trophies that were won during the season took place and also the Hawthorn Cup for the winning team in NDPA Saturday Pennant was again presented to the Division 2 team.

The Annual General meeting followed a sumptuous afternoon tea. In his President’s report, Jim McLeish told the meeting of the highlights of the year – winning the Division 2 Premiership of the Northern District Playing Area, new shades on the Westland Green as well as the lazering of the said green, the recent covering of the section between the gazebo and the bar area and the club’s representatives, Frank and Lorraine Ritchie representing the Region in the Championships at Ballarat in January.

He also thanked all the other members who gave of their time over the year to keep our club and the bowling green in playing condition, help fundraise and generally keep the club in a great financial position.

Life Member, Dale Spinks then took the chair for the appointment of office bearers.

It is pleasing to announce that Rob Fisher has agreed to take over the President’s position after Jimmy McLeish had led the club over the previous two years. Rob is the Royal Hotel publican and now doubles up as our major sponsor and top official.

Graeme Hayes again takes the Vice Presidents spot and Judy McKerrow and Peter Niall have taken on the Secretary and Treasurer jobs they have so expertly filled for numerous years.

Howard McClelland continues in his job as Club Captain. Sid Hutchinson is a new committee person and joins the other re-elected members, Noel Robertson, Robert “Fonzy” Taylor, Alan Hird, Jim McLeish, Allison Medson, Mick Pors and Laurie Gray. Congratulations to all these members who will guide Kerang Golf Bowls through the next season.

It was also agreed that the club persue a new uniform design for the coming season and the sub committee has been given the “go-ahead” to order new shirts etc for all members for the coming season.

These will be subsidised by club funds from income derived from all of our activities.

Thursday Social was attended by 19 players and a mixture of Pairs and Triples played the regulatory two games. With a total of 14 shots up, with their two wins, David Randell, Howard McClelland and John Murphy took home the major money, with Rob Fisher, Carol Pay and Marlene Rawson taking the runners-up prize with four shots up with their two wins. Chocolates to Sonia McLeish and Allison Medson.

As mentioned earlier, a new addition to the bowls area this week as well, with the cover over the area between the bar and the gazebo being built by the Tilburn Welding team and what a great job they have done. After our Anzac Day Triples, the shelters on the southern end of the Alec Mitchell green will be also be replaced, again by the Tilburn team.

All these improvements come with money raised from tournaments, raffles and cash for cans scheme.

Prior to our activities, our Sunday Social Bowls was enjoyed by 20 members, prior to the Presentation Day and Annual General Meeting.

Three bowl pairs was the game and new President Rob Fisher teamed with Craig Hicks to win the major prize with two wins and 14 shots up, from runners-up, Stuart Robinson and Howard McClelland who also won both games but only nine shots up.

Third place to Jim McLeish and Neil Paul with a win and a tied game. Chocolates to Dale Spinks and Marlene Orr.

Social Bowls continues on Thursdays and Sundays with names in by 12.45 pm for a start at 1pm. All bowlers are most welcome to join in.

A reminder to all bowlers, the Kerang Easter Tournament commences this Friday and continues over the weekend and our own Anzac Day Triples is the following Friday, April 25. There are still spots left, but get in soon as they will fill up.
