Sea Lake  Home to the state’s largest salt lake

Getting there

Sea Lake is located 353km north-west of Melbourne, close to a four-hour drive on the Calder Highway.

Sea Lake is a modest country town, in the heart of Victoria’s wheat belt, it has a vibrant community and is just 7km north from the state’s largest salt lake, Lake Tyrrell.

The ancient lake, which spans 20860 hectares, makes for epic viewing, particularly around sunrise and sunset, and there is evidence of ongoing Indigenous occupation, going back 45,000 years.

It is one heck of a photo backdrop, and affords the region’s photographers some of the most magical and awe-inspiring photos opportunities.

Marvel at its magnificent reflective surface and delightful pink hues.

The lake can be accessed via the Calder Highway at any time of the day or night.

Chartered tours will give you a local perspective on Lake Tyrrell and its significance to the area.

The depth of knowledge of the operating tour guides is outstanding.

Dine and dash

Drop into the newly refurbished Royal Hotel Sea Lake and be waited on by a wonderful group of locals, who recently purchased the pub, and restored it back to its beautiful best.

Take your pick from the main bar, sports bar or beer garden, alternatively, sit back and enjoy the true country ambience on the first floor veranda.

The Juke restaurant brings a new approach to dining in Sea Lake with a menu that showcases a collection of elegant a-la-carte dishes and classic pub meals with a delicious brunch menu on the weekend.

What better way to experience this historic hotel than to spend the night in one of the 10 refurbished bedrooms.

On offer are Queen, Family and Twin rooms all comfortably fitted with split system heating and cooling units.

Beds have fresh linen and are serviced daily.

This proudly community owned and operated country pub is the place to be. Enjoy a warm summer’s day in the beer garden with a cold glass of chardonnay, or take yourself inside on a cool winter’s day and enjoy a pint by bar.

The Royal Hotel is the only place in Sea Lake where you can drink, eat, sleep and repeat.

Silo art at its best

If art piques your fancy, then stop by one of the latest silo artworks to be added to Australia’s largest outdoor gallery; the Silo Art Trail.

The works, titled “Space in Between” is the masterpiece of street artists Drapl and The Zookeeper.

It pays homage to the nearby Lake Tyrrell and the Boorong People, with their deep and rich connection to both the night sky and the 120,000-year-old salt lake.
