THE future of a proposed mine near Lalbert remains uncertain after a government authority told a hearing more information was needed on environmental impacts.

Public hearings run by an Inquiry and Advisory Committee looking into VHM Ltd.’s proposal for the Goschen mineral sands and rare earths project that concluded in Swan Hill earlier in the month.

KERANG health services have received a $3 million boost from the Victorian Government to provide new equipment.

The latest upgrades to Kerang District Health have been labelled a smokescreen by Nationals leader and Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh.

IT has taken two years of hard work behind the scenes, so the recent announcement by the Victorian Government that Kerang District Health is the recipient of two grants has been met with the excitement by staff and management.

In total more than $3.5 million has been approved under the Regional Health Infrastructure Fund and Engineerinng Infrastructure Replacement Program grants.

THE impact of cost-shifting from state and federal governments to local councils will be put under the microscope by a Victorian Upper Houe Inquiry into local government.

The Legislative Council Economy and Infrastructure Committee is accepting public submissions until June 28.


TUESDAY, MAY 21

MURRAY River Council residents are set to be slugged with a 4.7 percent rise in general rates as the council continues to service level review to “pursue internal savings”.

The council said the drat 2024-25 budget was based on the total rate revenue increase, which was in line with the rate cap det by the Independent Pricing & Regulatory Tribunal of NSW.

IN just five weeks since Ben Hawthorne started as principle at Cohuna Consolidated School, he has already discovered both the school and wider Cohuna community are very friendly and community-orientated places.

Last week was Education week and it gave the newcomer a chance to meet and interact with parents, friends and the wider Cohuna community.


TUESDAY, MAY 28

ACTION by Kerang Lakes residents has paid off, with Telstra announcing an upgrade of the Mystic Park mobile tower.

Work was expected to be complete by Christmas, a regional general manager for the company said.

THE spotlight has been shone on a new policy around public street lighting in the Gannawarra Shire.

The council approved the draft Council Policy 149 – Public Street Lighting as its scheduled meeting last week, which is designed to govern the design, installation, and management of public street lighting within the shire.
