COHUNA and District Progress Association hosted its second chilli festival on Friday with close to 1000 people turning out to test their tastebuds.

With a range of food stalls and vans on site, offerings were not limited to the hot and spicy, but they certainly were a main feature.

POLICE are investigating incidents in Quambatook, including the alleged theft of a tractor and caravan.

Swan Hill detectives executed a search warrant at a rural address in the Quambatook area on September 17.

A tractor stolen from the Boort area was allegedly found at the address.

MOST people only get to do this once in their lifetime – go to their hometown’s 100th birthday.

And when Murrabit officially marked its centenary at the weekend there were plenty of people – residents and expats – who turned out for the celebrations.

Things kicked off on Saturday with the town’s signature event – the Murrabit market – and stretched into Sunday with a raft of events.

WITH the start of the new Bush Fire Danger Period this week, Murray River Council residents have been urged to ensure they are as prepared as possible.

Balranald Shire residents will now require a fire permit throughout the Bush Fire Danger Period.

Tuesday, October 15

THREE Cohuna community groups have received a slice each of $6000 from the brains behind Cohuna’s popular Creekside living estate, Murray Sound.

Cohuna District Hospital, Cohuna Lions Club and Cohuna and District Progress Association were each presented with $2000 at the estate on October 5.

MURRAY River Council will recruit a new chief executive after the “shock” resignation of Terry Dodds.

Mr Dodds, who handed in his resignation last Friday, will depart the council at the start of next month.

He said it had been an honour to be the chief executive of the council for almost four years.

Tuesday, October 22

COHUNA CFA have received a new state-of-the-art rescue vehicle, more than 30 years after the brigade was nominated to serve as a rescue unit along the Murray Valley Highway.

Captain Matthew Trigg said the new larger truck enabled the brigade to attend their community faster and safer.

FARMERS across the region have described last week’s rain as “a little bit more than ideal”, with falls of up to 98mm recorded around the region just weeks out from the start of harvest.

Tuesday, October 29

A TREATY calling for self-determination and better life outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders in Victoria would result in better outcomes for all Victorians, according to Mutthi Mutthi and Wamba Wamba man Jason Kelly.

THE CFA has declared the fire danger period will begin in Gannawarra, Campaspe and Loddon Shires on Monday 1am, November 4.

CFA District 18 assistant chief fire officer Gavin Wright said the restrictions imposed by the fire danger period are an important community safety measure during the summer
