Kerang residents celebrated the 140th anniversary of The Royal Hotel and the Exchange Hotel on Saturday.

In a town that once had five pubs, the two as well as the Kerang Sports & Entertainment Venue (formerly The Commercial) still remain standing after the others were destroyed by fires.

Member for Murray Plains Peter Walsh would remain in Parliament until the next election, despite stepping down as leader of the Victorian Nationals after a decade.

Gippsland South MP Danny O’Brien was elected unopposed as the new leader in a party room meeting.

A recently launched document is providing Gannawarra Shire Council and various agencies a snapshot of the health and wellbeing of the municipality’s children and young people.

The council and representatives from agencies who support children and young people in the Gannawarra gathered on November 27 to launch The State of Gannawarra’s Children and Young People Report.

Gannawarra Council will be forced to shorten the Kerang to Koondrook Rail Trail after environmental constraints impacted the project’s initial concept designs.

The council used $500,000 provided by the State Government’s Regional Development Victoria Investment Fast Track Fund and $125,000 from its 2022-23 budget to complete planning works for the proposed 22km cycling and walking trail between the two towns.

The proposed VHM Limited Rare Earth and Mineral Sands Project at Goschen will progress to the Federal Government for approval, after the Victorian Minister for Planning completed her assessment.

Minister Sonya Kilkenny released a 110-page assessment of the Goschen project, which concluded that the potential environmental and nuclear impacts would be at acceptable levels with mitigation and offsetting measures.

Kerang dux students Brylie Shepard and Daniel Veloso were both shocked when they were told the news on Thursday.

The respective Kerang Christian College and Kerang Technical High School top achievers scored the highest Australian Tertiary Admission Rank amongst their Year 12 VCE peers.
