Country Week showdown spectacular

SWAN Hill’s best junior cricketers will battle against Mildura-based Sunraysia in this year’s Country Week competition.

Set to take place across three days, matches will be played across the Swan Hill and Kerang regions with a variety of different formats of cricket on display.

Joint under 17 coach Luke Murray said there will be some very competitive cricket on offer across the event.

“The tournament combines the best of our league with the best of Sunraysia league across three age groups and we will be competitive in all matches,” Murray said.

“Last year we had a very close competition in the under 17 age group and we expect that again this year.

“While the boys missed out on the win last year they will be looking to make amends, and the side is good enough to turn the tables.”

Play will take place across three days with four matches in total, two of which will be T20.

The remaining matches will be 40, 45 and 50 over matches for the under 13, under 15 and under 17 sides respectively.

The side who wins the most matches of the four will take the Country Week title.

Murray encouraged both the Swan Hill and Kerang communities to get out and support the boys.”There will be some great cricket on offer across all age groups but a match I would suggest people get behind is the night T20 game played by the under 17 bous under lights,” he said.

“This will be an exciting display of hard hitting and dynamic bowling and our group is confident we can get the job done.

“We played a night game in Mildura last year and it drew a huge crowd and was spectacular to watch.

“Hopefully the home side can pull those kinds of numbers to watch the game as it will be great to see the community get behind the guys.”

Entry to all games are free and the Wednesday night game will be played at Swan Hill Recreation Reserve from 7pm.
