CMFNL – Blues, Raiders gain advantage

KERANG and Koondrook/Barham sit two wins clear at the top of the Central Murray Football Netball League ladder with four rounds remaining.

The Blues hold a 13 per cent advantage over the Raiders, with both sides to have the bye this weekend.

A five-goal to nil third term set up Kerang’s 39-point win against the Mallee Eagles at Lalbert, with small forward, Michael Runciman kicking six goals.

The third quarter was the only term where there was a distinct advantage one way, with the win the Blues’ 11th of season 2016.

Koondrook/Barham did what it needed to do to remain in the battle for the minor premiership, defeating Tyntynder by 99 points.

Tom Lamb (six goals) led the way for the hosts, who kicked the only eight goals of the third quarter.

Last season’s grand finalists’ hopes to finish on top of the ladder received a boost thanks to Woorinen’s 23-point win against Nyah-Nyah West United.

The loss – the Demons’ second in the space of eight days – leaves the former competition leaders two wins behind top spot with the side to play Kerang on August 6.

Meanwhile, the Cohuna Kangas remain 10 points off the top five, despite recording a 85-point win against Balranald.

On a day when the Kangas celebrated the Cohuna Bloods’ 1986 senior and reserves premierships, it was the club’s future stars that led the way.

Harrison Keely kicked seven goals, with Rick Easton and Sam O’Shea chipping in with four goals each, to help the home side record their fifth win of the season.

The Kangas will also have the bye this weekend, but can remain in the hunt for the finals if both Woorinen – who play Swan Hill – and Tooleybuc/Manangatang, who play the Bulldogs, lose.
