LEITCHVILLE is still alive and has a stroke of creativity.
That’s the message from organisers of the town’s second ever art and craft exhibition, to be held at the Leitchville Memorial Hall next weekend.
Notable Cohuna artist, Heather Stanmore, Cohuna Spinners and Weavers members and photography winners from the recent Barham Koondrook Photographic Competition will exhibit at the two-day event.
Dream catchers, candles, soaps, wire sculptures and school artwork will also appear at one of the town’s biggest events of the year.
Memorabilia of the disused Leitchville railway station, which marked its 100th anniversary last November, will also be displayed.
Organiser, Dawn Billman said it’s hoped the event will attract motor-home visitors who frequent the recreational vehicle rest area.
“We want the community to know that Leitchville really is alive and that we have some amazing talented and artistic residents,” she said.
“We don’t do enough to connect the foundations in Leitchville and need to let people know that our toes have not curled up.
“We may have an empty factory, but we have infrastructure, a bank, a bakery and a great school with more than 20 students.”
Doors will be open from 10am to 5pm on Saturday, May 14 and 10am to 4pm on Sunday, May 15.
Entry is $2, with morning and afternoon tea available.
Cohuna resident, Christine Hawken will also exhibit more than 50 articles from her collection, including local landscape and wildlife through paintings and drawings.
Mrs Hawken’s exhibition will be held at the Leitchville Anglican Church on both days of the weekend from 10am to 4pm.
Entry is via a gold coin donation, with morning and afternoon tea available.
