Cohuna gift store raided

A COHUNA business has been targeted in a ram-raid in which offenders gained access to the store by driving a car into its metal shutters.

Local police and crime investigation unit officers attended the scene at a store on King George Street on Thursday morning.

The premises’ metal shutters had been damaged by a vehicle early that morning, allowing thieves to access the gift and accessories store.

Swan Hill Police acting inspector Brian Hansen said police were still investigating the circumstances surrounding the theft.

“The person/s have entered the store and have taken a small sum of money and a quantity of cigarette lighters, but nothing else was taken, which is a little strange,” Insp Hansen said.

“We are looking at local CCTV and have received a good response from the local community.

“We are hopeful we will be able to identify the persons responsible for this very shortly.”

Insp Hansen said a white utility vehicle believed to be involved in the incident was spotted by police following the ram-raid.

“The vehicle was spotted and police attempted to pull it over but the car sped off in a manner that was not worth chasing,” he said.

“We do believe there may be some cross-border jurisdictional issues at play here so it could be now that the offenders are out of our area.”

Police are asking anyone with information on the theft to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or Cohuna police.
