Cohuna Golf Bowls Saturday bowls team has made it into the last 16 in the state, along with the Kerang Midweek team.

Of course there is a bit of local bowling talent in the area, and these teams will compete for State honours in Moama on May 23 and 24.

Speaking of bowls, it seems that Edward Fenton has switched to using one of those salad stirrers to send down his bowl. The ole back isn’t what it used to be.

Eddo has always been a great competitor who loves his bowls, but he also loves the social side of the game. Hope the salad stirrer is put to good use Eddo.

Still on bowls, last week some members of the Kerang Rotary Club were brazenly recruiting some of the town’s top-line bowlers to compete in the annual Rotary v Lions bowls day held at the Kerang Golf Bowling Club last Thursday.

A member of the club, who didn’t wish to be identified, but whose name is Ron Kelly, was looking to contact players such as Kevin and Gayle Teasdale, Tunna Roberts and other champions of the game.

It wouldn’t have mattered if these players were recruited or not – it’s always an excellent, social day – but the Rotary folks just wanted to be a bit more competitive.

Vesna from the mining company was eventually recruited, along with Howard Carey and Buddha Murray, but the Lions were still a bit strong and won the event. Buddha is a top-line bowler, so the poor old Rotarians must need lots of help.

Rotary President Ron Kelly was the only one on the night to send one down on the wrong bias and he claims that the Rotarians bowled consistently. That’s like being a good ‘bad example’ Ron.

All up, it was a very successful evening. Well done to the local service clubs.

Ran into Bruce Bott in the street the other day. Bruce is a former Wandella FC champion and played a bit at Wakool also.

Bruce has sold his butchery to Cam Langley and since he is not butchering, he’s been flat out like a lizard drinking, doing odd jobs.

Kurl asked if Bruce’s daughter was married, but no. It was her Debutante Ball. You see, I saw pictures on fakebook of Bruce’s lovely wife Deb dressed to the nines next to their daughter, who was dressed in a white gown. Easy mistake, but Bruzer said, “Geez, not yet!” Sorry guys, and … looking good Deb.

Crikey – footy started on Saturday with Kerang taking on Swan Hill at SH and Koondrook Barham hosting Mallee Eagles.

Cohuna Kangas had the bye – another week to be cherry ripe, before hosting what is expected to be an improving Balranald.

We are looking to a Grand Final between two of the ‘southern’ teams. Yep, that’d be good.

Then the Golden Rivers season starts this coming Saturday.

There was some graffiti on the Scoresby Street sidewalk from the “Book of Owen” encouraging a couple of workers from businesses in that street. Pat, Jon, Brad and Trent all got a mention. Jon without a ‘h’ Owen.

Also, another statement mixed in with all these was ‘Hope is not a contraceptive’.

Shane Leerson was meant to be looking after his granddaughter, Ruby the other day. “Don’t let her go to sleep yet” were his instructions.

Two minutes later – both asleep.

Lift your game Shane.

If you can’t think of a word say “I forgot the English word for it.” That way people might think you’re bilingual instead of an idiot.
