Cohuna
Cohuna finished with two wins and a loss.
With hardly any wind, but heaps of flies, Division One played Wakool and won by 34 shots, with two rinks in the winner’s circles and the other rink down by four shots.
Jeff Reade continues on his winning way, defeating G.Treweek by 26 shots and picking up a lazy seven on one end, with R.Wilson missing out on that bowl to get a badge.
Brian Bowles also greeted the judge with a 12-shot win over R.Walker.
Secretary Peter Van der Zande trailed ‘the quiet one’, in Ian Main all day, losing by four shots, but came back srongly over the later stages of the game.
Division Two played Barham Services with two rinks down and one win, going down by 12 shots overall.
Wally Henery played Ian Mues and was in front all day, winning 14 ends and was nine shots up. Well done, Wal.
Dianne Manners played Ken Lake, who was taking no prisoners, defeating Dianne by 12 shots.
Gordon stepped up as skipper and was against K. Ashton, being level on the 13th end, but after smoko, Barham pulled away to win by nine shots.
Division Three played our neighbours, Cohuna Golf, and got up by 23 shots.
The first one to greet the judge was Marge Mooney, playing Cheryl Baker and with Big Bad John Crichton the best player of the rink, but with Golf’s credit, came back and eventually down by 18 shots.
Michael McGann played against Graeme Peace and with new recruit Tom Allen, who we picked up in the November draft, watch out Division Two as he is capable of performing at a higher level.
After Mic had a bit of a giddy spell, son Nathan was looking after him and won by 19 shots.
Noel Yandle played against Anne Hipwell and with the evergreen Alan Westblade not far off kitty all day closely followed by Val Morris.
Then we had Irene Trezise also taking shots off us. Noel went down by 14 shots.
Also, we picked up Kev O’Toole in the draft and he had his first game.
Social scene December 21 is our last game and we have our break-up with men to pay $10 and the ladies a salad. Santa may even come.
Lastly, poker jackpot is $140.
My apologies for not mentioning it earlier, but our prayers are with the Thorson family, who lost Col over the week.
Cohuna Golf
Ladies first, with Yvonne, Denise and Pat collecting the chocolates last Tuesday, while new chums on an adjoining rink showed sufficient talent for cries to have them handicapped. A great start to the sport ladies.
The singles final along with a pick-up event are both on today, followed by a luncheon for the mid-week players.
On the pennant scene, our midweek heroes both had wins, Division One defeated Kerang Golf by five, with Gwen up by 14 as the highlight.
Division Two rolled Kerang, with Irene Trezise, Linda McManus Ron Morris and Pat Pollock notching an eight during their big win by 21 shots.
Wednesday night bowls saw Rove McLoughlan, Ron Eckhardt and Jason Stewart again snare the glasses, although the Doug Peace-Barb Barry game was far better contested.
Thanks to Jason for the extra nibbles, our supper is nearly becoming a main event.
Doug scores duty this week, our last before the break.
Don’t forget to hunt up that Christmas gear and turn up in all your splendour this week.
Pennant results were a mixed bag, with Kerang turning over our boys in Division One, courtesy of a big win by Daniel Baker over Jarred Hammond.
Bluey had a narrow loss, but a John Keely win by eight helped balance the ledger somewhat.
Bower vouchers to John, Gary Easton, James McGillivray and Mick Carmody.
The Whites travelled to Kerang Golf, and after a day of fluctuating scores, came up trumps with wins in all three games.
Yvonne and Bruce both got home by two, with Peter a dozen ahead of Ron McKerrow.
Many thanks to Lee Sutherland and Ron Farrant coming in to complete our teams.
Navy followed the big boys into Kerang and met a similar fate, although with a much closer score line.
Doug Peace got home by one, Kerry Ballard down by one, and Ron Eckhardt seven in arrears of Ed Fenton.
They slip one game behind their White teammates on the ladder, but have a chance for redemption this week at Kerang Golf.
Division Three battled hard at Cohuna with reduced team strengths.
Anne did best with a good win over Noel Yandle. Cheryle and Tucker both were under pressure all day, resulting in a win overall to Cohuna by some 23 shots.
Great to have Val and Bev join us to allow this group to play their Saturday game.
Sunday saw our Classic Fours get underway in near-perfect conditions. After a couple of pre-game hiccups with local clubs coming up short-staffed, the day went off in super fashion. Many thanks to our late fill-ins.
Great greens, excellent catering and a terrific atmosphere created during games resulted in just one four game winner.
This side skipped by Aaron Mead joined us from Wycheproof, just pipping Brian Richardson’s Swan Hill rink, who had three and a half wins. Third went to ever reliable Buck Lehmann from Murray Downs.
Best game awards went to M.Carmody (Cohuna Golf,) L.Maxstead (Boort), John Keely (Composite) and John Brown (City of Echuca.)
President Pat Quinn thanked sponsors cluBarham, Reid’s Plumbing, Nevin’s Real Estate and the Gunbower Hotel for their assistance in making the day so successful, and all our wonderful workers within the club.
