CEO again for Cohuna

COHUNA District Hospital will have its own chief executive officer again following the announcement that Echuca Regional Health chief executive officer, Michael Delahunty is retiring.

Mr Delahunty was CEO of both hospitals for 18 months and said that it was a good move to hire a CEO who would work at Cohuna exclusively.

“Given that there is a lot that continues to happen at Cohuna, I think it’s important to have their own CEO,” he said.

Prior to Mr Delahunty taking up the role, William Hall was CEO at Cohuna.

Mr Delahunty will be retiring mid-year but advertising for the positions of CEO of Echuca Regional Health and Cohuna District Hospital respectively has already begun.

Cohuna District Hospital general manager, Kathy Day said that it is hoped the new CEO will commence duties on or before June.

The community of Cohuna experienced conflict with Echuca after it was decided by Echuca and the Board of Management in Cohuna to cease obstetrics services at the hospital late last year.

In response to the decision almost 2000 people signed a petition requesting that Cohuna District Hospital remain a stand-alone hospital, which was then delivered to State Parliament.

Doctors at Cohuna also conducted a walk-off, which was ended on the same day by the news that obstetrics would remain.
