Shop’s second vehicle

KERANG’S Bus Stop Recycle Shop has acquired a new wheelchair-accessible mini-bus to rent out to community and private groups.

The bus will be the second in the opportunity shop’s fleet, and will seat five people, plus a wheelchair.

Carol Barton, one of the volunteers who heads up the Bus Stop Recycle Shop, said that it was a welcome and necessary addition to the store and the community.

“We got this running because we felt that it was really needed for elderly people to get out and about,” she said.

The opportunity shop opened in 2015 for the purpose of purchasing the buses, which Ms Barton – after a career in the health industry – felt were a much-needed community asset for those who are wheelchair-bound and have few other transport options.

Despite the bus being being barely out of the showroom, bookings already extend to November.

“The community is already using it and we’re just so happy to see that – people need this bus,” Ms Barton said.

The volunteer-run shop is also busy gearing up for its annual Garage and Car Boot Sales event, which will be held November 11.

Inquiries about renting the bus or about the Car Boot Sales should be directed to the Nolan Street store.
