CMFNL – Blues progress, Eagles out

KERANG will play in a 10th consecutive Central Murray Football Netball League senior grand final following Saturday’s 14-point second semi-final win against Woorinen.

Eyeing off a sixth consecutive premiership, the Blues upped the intensity in the second quarter, opening up a 21-point lead and were able to keep the Tigers at bay.

Premiership captain, Ryan Gillingham, as well as former coach, Troy Coates and Marty Kelly led the way what proved to be the quarter of dominance, taking control of the midfield and providing plenty of ball to Scott Lockwood and his fellow forwards.

Lockwood finished with five goals for the victors, with coach, Travis Matheson booting three goals of his own.

The club’s 2017 best and fairest, Troy Davis, as well as Bradlee Pay and Gillingham were best on ground for the Blues, who take on the winner of this weekend’s preliminary final encounter between the Tigers and Swan Hill in September 16’s decider.

The Swans turned a 23-point half-time deficit against the Mallee Eagles into a one-point win, and are one victory away from the club’s first grand final since 2011.

The Eagles – led by Daniel Bibby and Corey Viani – dominated the opening half, but the class of Matthew Wade and Xavier Mololey helped the Swans secure the win.
