Kerang Golf
FIRST of all, welcome to pennant for season 2022/23. Good luck to all teams in all divisions.
The wet weather is still around, but it didn’t dampen the enthusiasm of the Kerang Golf bowlers who took to the greens last Thursday for the regular Thursday social.
There were 15 competitors who played a game of scroungers. The play-off between section winners – Laurie Gray, Mick Pors and Rob Malseed – saw a tie after three ends, with all players finishing on six points each, so each player was given one bowl and nearest the kitty was the winner.
Well done to Mick, with Laurie as runner-up and Rob in third place. The "chocolates" went to Marlene Rawson.
Midweek pennant was washed out the previous day, so all teams are equal top of the ladder. Teams for this week (Wednesday) to play Kerang at Kerang, are Judy McKerrow (skipper), Joyce Tuohey, Rosie Laughlin and Lorraine Douglass, with team two being Lorraine Ritchie (skipper), Sonia McLeish, Marlene Rawson and Allison Medson.
Hopefully, weather will not come as forecast and the "midweekers" can get their season off and rolling.
Saturday pennant saw division one at home against Wakool and a thrilling finish eventuated, with Wakool skipper Robert Walker drawing shot on the last bowl of the game to gain a three-shot win overall.
Best performed for Kerang Golf was Howard McClelland’s rink of Jim McLeish, Graeme Hayes and Alan Hird which led the way with a 12-shot win and were the recipients of the Royal Hotel vouchers for this week. Frank Ritchie’s team played a tied game.
Division two travelled to Cohuna and with their number one skipper away on Lion’s duties and a few other absentees, were no match for Cohuna 2 on their own greens, losing on all rinks and a mammoth 61 shots overall.
This team will come back strongly on Saturday and make their presence felt in this division as the season progresses.
Division 3, unfortunately, received a forfeit from Cohuna 4, but it was pleasing to see them have a game of social bowls amongst themselves, before watching the last ends of the Division 1 match.
The Peg Coad Memorial Any Combination Triples Tournament is scheduled for October 27 with the only proviso that ladies must skip.

On Sunday, at our greens, the play-off for the qualifying round of the state pairs event was played between our own Frank Ritchie and Lloyd Murray against the Cohuna combination of Brian Bowles and Mike Hoffman.
After 15 ends of very competitive bowling, and at times absolutely brilliant bowling, the Cohuna combination came out on top and will move to the regional play-offs.
Also on Sunday, our club was represented at the Wakool Star Day Tournament by Jimmy, Sonia and Bryce McLeish with Trevor Linton and they won their three games, but lost in a four-end play-off for the major prize. Well done to you all – bet you had a great day as Wakool are very hospitable hosts.
Twilight Triples is to commence tomorrow night. There are 12 teams participating and bowls commence at 6pm. A barbecue is included in the entry fee. If anyone wishes to participate, there will be opportunities to play – please contact Aldo on 0407 310 762.
Men’s Club Championship Singles entries are being sought – names on sheet on notice board. Entries will close very soon, so get your names on the sheet on the noticeboard if you wish to play.
Other club events entry sheets will be put on the noticeboard this week and entries are sought for all the regular events, so draws can be done and matches played.
