New year starts with a bang

NEW Year’s Eve was celebrated spectacularly across the Gannawarra, with both Kerang and Cohuna holding festivities to mark the start of 2023.

Hosted by the Kerang Progress Association, Kerang New Year’s Eve Party in the Park included an array of food vendors and entertainment for the kids and the adults. The main event was the fireworks displays, with one at 9.30pm for the kids and another at midnight to bring in the new year.

“It was a beautiful night, a massive crowd as usual, very well attended,” Kerang Progress Association president Angela Teasdale said.

More than 800 people came out for Cohuna’s New Year’s Eve festivities that held at Garden Park.

Cohuna Progress Association president Wendy McGlone told the Gannawarra Times that while it only all came together a couple of weeks before the event, everything ran very smoothly and was well supported by the community.

“We couldn’t have asked for better weather, a better crowd, and a fantastic night of entertainment,” Ms McGlone said.

“Everyone was saying ‘great effort, you’ve got to keep this going’, so it was all very positive for New Year’s Eve to continue in Cohuna.”

Ms McGlone said the glow toys and face painting were a particular hit for the kids, while the midnight fireworks were “superb”.

“I just really thank the community for getting behind us and supporting the night,” Ms McGlone said.

“It was just the most positive thing and happy night.”
