Long weekend concert sees successful launch

COHUNA held its first Home Ground Sounds concert across the Labour Day long weekend and have committed to make it an annual affair.

The six hour event was held at Cohuna Reserve and brought together a variety of musical acts, with multiple community groups benefitting through fundraising efforts.

Performances included a blend of country, rock and blues sounds culminating with a high energy performance by The Wolfe Brothers.

Rob Mills performed the songs of Bon Jovi and was joined by special guest Shannon Noll.

On stage together for the first time in decades, the pair treated the crowd to a performance filled with nostalgia and heart, as they belted out Bon Jovi hits together.

Providing a foot-stomping blues-rock energy, 19-Twenty delighted spectators while Big and Horny brought their unique sound with a touch of good-natured humour.

Newcomer Zak Armstrong, DJ Vers@tille, and Sam+Sam were other performers across the day.

The event served as a fundraiser to support multiple community groups, who play an integral role in the Cohuna community.

Cohuna Kangas Football Netball Club president Wade Mathers said regional community groups were the lifeblood of the town.

“Home Ground Sounds brought a wonderful day of entertainment to the area but also provided an opportunity to raise funds for the club,” he said.

“The event itself was hours of fantastic music and fun for all ages, but the impact the concert had will extend well beyond one day and we are excited for next year.”
