The chicken or the egg, or neither
Gannawarra Council, at its ordinary meeting held on November 16, 2022, endorsed the draft Local Law No. 1 Community Amenity for community engagement for a period of 28 days.
I urge all residents of the Gannawarra Shire to read these draft local laws to find out what the proposed changes mean for them.
As a resident of this rural municipality for the past 18 years, I am astounded that councillors want to remove the right for me to provide healthy eating options for my family by not allowing me to raise chickens in my backyard.
Local laws are necessary, but the draft local laws remove many freedoms rural towns people should not have to ask for.
Please have your say and let the councillors know that Gannawarra Shire is not in the city, we are indeed rural and keeping animals in our backyards is not a freedom to be taken away from us.
